Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now ubiquitous!
From assisting billion-dollar projects to optimising image quality on your phone camera, AI is integrated into every nook and corner.
The health and wellness industry has been one of the significant recipients that has massively benefited from AI. It is transforming how we live and take care of ourselves, making everyday tasks easier, more efficient, and even more enjoyable.
AI-powered tools are changing the way we approach wellness and helping us build healthier habits with less effort.
Welcome to “AI Tool for the Week,” a new series where we explore the latest AI-driven innovations that are making a real difference in our daily lives.
This week, we’re talking about Lifesum, a healthy eating app that’s on a mission to make meal tracking simple and stress-free.
Meet Lifesum
Based out of Stockholm, Lifesum is a global healthy eating app that aims to transform meal tracking.
Lifesum does this through an AI-powered Multimodal Tracker for personalised nutrition.
Lars Hansson, Chief Experience Officer at Lifesum says, “Traditional meal tracking is often tedious and time-consuming, so our goal was to make it seamless and effortless. By leveraging advanced image recognition and natural language processing technology to overcome these barriers, the Multimodal Tracker helps individuals make healthier choices and build sustainable, long-term health habits.”
Logging meals made effortless
The company’s Multimodal Tracker transforms meal tracking by allowing individuals to log entire meals or individual ingredients through a combination of methods. Individuals can:
- Capture complex dishes with advanced image recognition.
- Log meals hands-free using voice input for ultimate convenience.
- Scan barcodes for accurate nutritional details in seconds.
- Manually enter specifics for complete customisation and control.
Lifesum’s rapid rollout plan will ensure individuals worldwide can benefit from the Multimodal Tracker in early 2025.
Take control with fasting intervals
Lifesum now lets users calculate and log their ‘Fasting’ experiences. The app enables users to choose from existing fasting intervals or set up their own.
Users can enable it by heading to Profile -> Settings -> Diary Settings -> Fasting.
Users can choose from 12:12, 14:10, and 16:8 as our preset intervals.
- The 12:12 interval is the most balanced fasting interval. It is great for those who want to stop late-night snacking.
- The 16:8 interval is suitable for those who wish to skip a meal during the 16-hour fasting period, and it also fits well with our 16:8 Meal Plans (Morning Fasting and Evening Fasting).
- The 14:10 interval allows you to put your body into ketosis while still eating at least three meals a day.
Your health in one weekly score
The Life Score is a weekly health tracker in the Lifesum app that evaluates your overall health based on 16 key nutrition and exercise metrics. It provides:
- A comprehensive score reflecting your lifestyle habits.
- Personalized feedback highlighting areas where you excel and suggestions for improvement.
The score is based on:
- Nutrition: Are you consuming adequate fruits, vegetables, unsaturated fats, and other key food and nutrients?
- Water Intake: Are you staying hydrated and logging your water consumption?
- Exercise: Do you have a balanced mix of activities, including strength, low-intensity, and high-intensity exercises?
The Life Score will be updated every Monday, summarising the user’s progress and areas for improvement. Additionally, the app will provide personalised suggestions to focus on specific habits, like tracking water or increasing fruit intake.
How does it help users daily?
The main goal of the platform is to promote healthy eating.
The app is designed to help users make smarter food choices and develop sustainable eating habits.
By offering a holistic approach to wellness, the Stockholm-based company shows how nutrition affects key areas such as sleep, exercise, and mental well-being.
The platform provides personalised nutrition insights, recipes, meal plans, diets, and tracking tools for both food and exercise.
As per the company’s claims, the early data shows higher retention, goal completion, and strong user engagement, confirming the feature’s impact and market readiness.
