Last update:

Amazon, the world’s biggest online retailer has stated that it has numerous signed deals with customers for a new business line. On Monday, a new website will invite others to inquire about a service called Just Walk Out technology by Amazon.

It is a highly anticipated business, which reflects Amazon’s strategy of building internal capabilities such as warehouses that help with package delivery and cloud technology and turning the same into lucrative services for others.

No more checkout lines?

Amazon Go brought shopping without checkout lines a reality. It has been set up in the most common vocations in the U.S. Regarding the same, Dilip Kumar, the vice president of physical retail and technology at Amazon stated that the success of this business model depends on the shoppers’ preferences, claims Reuters.

Just Walk Out Technology by Amazon

Unlike Amazon Go stores, with the Just Walk Out technology by Amazon, shoppers will just have to insert a credit card into a turnstile rather than scanning an app. The turnstile will show the logo ‘Just Walk Out Technology by Amazon’. The retailers using the service will be controlling the branding and store aspects.

This new service will add the items picked by the customer and other guests who enter with them to the virtual cart of the shopper. The store will bill the credit card as soon as the person or group exit the store. What’s interesting is that there is no checkout lines or bar code scans required for the same.

Amazon is all set to install technology including ceiling cameras, shelf weight sensors at the stores of its retailers. Be it retrofits or people from new locations, there will be requirements for 24×7 support.

And, here’s the downside!

Though this service from Amazon seems to be useful, the issue that might arise is related to who owns the shopper data, which is something that businesses want to customise marketing offers and build their customer base. Those shoppers who need a receipt can type an email to the kiosk or any store.
