14 European metropolitan cities and regions joined forces and announced on Saturday, September 29, the launch of a new campaign- “Choose Europe” – to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for a more sustainable and resilient Europe.

The 14 metropolitan cities and regions network include Amsterdam, Bavaria, Berlin, Catalonia, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Lyon, Paris, Riga, Stockholm, Vienna, Warsaw, and Zurich.

“We differ in geographic features and operate in different sectors, but ultimately we have a lot in common. Working at a metropolitan or regional level, we have been entrusted with attracting sustainable investments to our cities, stimulating innovation, and creating new jobs. Ultimately, these investments should benefit our local communities. With Choose Europe, we take our collaboration to the next level by working together on shared values without compromising on social and environmental sustainability,” says Peter de Kruijk, Director of Amsterdam International Business, founding member of the network.

Choose Europe

The “Choose Europe” project aims to position Europe as the ideal location for international companies looking for economic success and sustainable growth.

“The public agencies have chosen to join forces in the competitive field of attracting foreign direct investment, be it green field and relocation projects or talents, believing that shared success positively benefits the entire European region. Therefore, investment promotion agencies in several European cities and regions have collaborated over the past years to improve their best practices and share a collective path for responsible development on the European continent,” mentions the campaign’s press release.

The campaign will initially target North America and focus on digital channels and several physical events in European cities, such as Web Summit and MIPIM.

“Often, companies will have to choose between our regions, but we take comfort in the fact that the investment will settle with one of our neighbours sharing the same vision. It is part of our European spirit both in growth and resilience contexts. We feel that this sentiment, now more than ever, is a key argument to share with foreign investors and talents in the world,” says Bertrand Foucher, General Director of Invest in Lyon.
