While freelancing snags most of the limelight, there’s also the concept of crowd working, which caters to a wider audience and works well. For those unaware, crowd working is a concept where many people are assigned to work on individual tasks for a firm, which is quite similar in a way to a self-employed freelancer. Amsterdam-based company Roamler is a rapidly growing pan-European crowdsourcing platform, which is taking a leap forward. It has raised €20 million in its latest funding round.

Accelerating on-demand crowd work across Europe

Endeit Capital, SmartFin, and Achmea Innovation Fund participated in Roamler’s latest funding round. The company will utilise the newly raised funds to accelerate its growth across Europe. Furthermore, the company will expand its service internationally, commencing with the UK and Germany, in the field of on-demand professional installations, maintenance, and repair activities. The funds will be utilised to grow the IT and data science teams.

“Thanks to this new round of investments, we are confident we can further develop our range of services, combining our highly skilled community of on-demand workers with a completely data driven approach,” says Roamler CEO Jeroen ten Haave. “It has always been our mission to change the way people and companies work. Our business model enables companies to easily scale their operations up or down and get results faster. At the same time, it grants independent professionals access to a wider range of opportunities, when and where they want.”

The new investors join the existing Roamler shareholders, which consist of the Roamler management, Eneco, and PostNL. PostNL has specifically joined Roamler Care, which was introduced in 2018 and focuses specifically on healthcare services.

Beyond supply and demand

Most gig-economies and crowd work solutions simply match supply with demand. However, Roamler sets itself apart by going beyond and taking full responsibility for the end result. It can do so since it recruits, trains, and organises its employees and assigns the right professional to the right task at the right location. Furthermore, it checks the quality of each assignment, providing businesses with a notable competitive advantage in terms of costs, flexibility, and customer satisfaction.

Ease of use for independent workers

Roamler was founded in 2011 by the COO and co-founder Martijn Nijhuis. The company operates three brands, which consist of Roamler Retail, Roamler Tech, and Roamler Care. In the retail sector, the company is the European leader in crowd-supported field-marketing activities.

Roamler performs tasks for the biggest FMCG manufacturers, consumer brands, PCGs, and retail chains. It is also one of the first companies to apply crowdsourcing to B2B in tech. In 2018, the company launched Roamler Care, which crowdsources the widespread professional caregivers for increased flexibility and efficiency.

People who sign up to work for Roamler are independent professionals. The company enables them to focus solely on their core performance and skip unprofitable activities such as sales, planning or invoicing. The company is also flexible and enables members to decide when, where, and how much they want to work. This is all combined with an automated invoicing system and instant payments for helping members stay on top of their careers and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
