Last update:

Pieter Paul van den Hoven, the founder of Amsterdam-based StoreShippers, a provider of last-mile e-commerce delivery services, recently announced the decision to shut the operation through a LinkedIn post

“As I close this chapter, I’m still excited about e-commerce, logistics, and the value of technology in this space. I’m currently exploring new opportunities and would be happy to engage in conversations about new ventures and opportunities,” he adds.

The announcement comes after the Dutch company went bankrupt after recording a loss of €1.3M in its five-year operations.

The company also struggled to recover from the debts accumulated during the coronavirus period and the departure of its largest customer, Rituals.

According to the bankruptcy report, StoreShippers achieved a turnover of almost €2M in 2021, more than double the turnover in the first year and a half.

However, sales dropped again just as quickly, and in 2022, turnover amounted to €1.6M, and last year just over €1M.

Pieter Paul van den Hoven attributes the company’s decline to the fact that the product was not well suited to the market after COVID-19.

“For 4 years we’ve been revolutionising e-commerce logistics with our platform for sustainable ship-from-store logistics. It reached great heights during COVID with operations in 12 countries but unfortunately, the product-market fit after COVID did not materialise,” he posted on LinkedIn.

The report also shows that parts of the bankrupt company have been taken over by the French company Shopopop, which paid €25K.  The office inventory was sold via an auction site.
