Amsterdam-based software firm Avalor AI has secured €2M in a seed round of funding led by Keen Venture Partners. The investment aims to advance autonomous capabilities for unmanned military systems.
The company’s hardware-agnostic AI software supports the integration and operations of unmanned systems from various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and countries.
Enhancing unmanned systems with autonomy
Founded in 2021 by Maurits Korthals Altes, Jeroen Lappenschaar and Marc Derksen, Avalor AI claims to have established itself as a leader in autonomous systems. “We specialise in either AI, software integration or simulation, but actively contribute to any challenge that requires a team effort.”
Avalor AI’s Nexus platform facilitates “multi-domain distributed mission autonomy’, enabling unmanned vehicles (across air, land, and sea) to independently plan, coordinate, and execute complex missions via a unified human-machine interface.
Nexus is based on standardised architectures, allowing integration into existing UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and future expansion to UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) for swarming concepts.
The company has engaged in projects with the Dutch Ministry of Defence and partnered with prominent entities such as Milrem Robotics from Estonia and Deltaquad, a Dutch drone manufacturer.
Avalor AI says its recent missions in Ukraine have highlighted the urgent demand for advanced autonomy in military missions, with their technology aimed at enhancing mission efficiency and safety for human operators.
Capital utilisation
Avalor AI plans to use the funds to accelerate the development and implementation of its “innovative” solutions.
The company aims to broaden its footprint in the European market by forging strategic alliances and deploying its technology among key NATO allies.
Maurits Korthals Altes, CEO of Avalor AI, adds, “With the backing of Keen Venture Partners, we are positioned to revolutionise the operational capabilities of unmanned systems in Europe.”
“Our Nexus software is designed to bring unprecedented levels of autonomy and interoperability, ensuring that various unmanned systems can work together seamlessly, regardless of their country of origin.”
