Last update:

Oxford, the UK-based Biomicrogel Group is an environmental biotech company advancing technology for cleaning water and hard surfaces. It has raised $13M (approx €10.8M) led by Swiss investor Gregory Berenstein.

Use of the capital

In 2020, the company opened representative offices in Europe and Southeast Asia to launch operations in these markets. It’s also planning to launch a new production facility in Europe.

Hence, with the raised capital the company aims to bring its products to the global market, expand its product line, increase production capacity, and in the process save nature from pollution.

About Biomicrogel Group

Founded in 2012 by Andrey Elagin, the company has developed a technology for cleaning water and hard surfaces from any type of oil, petroleum products, and integrated pollutions. The company is also the developer and patent holder for biomicrogels capable of addressing global environmental problems.

The company leveraged the microgels technology from the medical and pharmaceutical industry to create industrial and home care products for markets with a total volume of over $400B (approx €332.62M).

Andrey Elagin, Founder of Biomicrogel, says, “Due to their high cost, microgels were previously used sparingly and mainly in the field of medicine for microencapsulation and drug delivery in the human body. We have developed a new technology to produce them from vegetable and globally distributed raw materials, making them available for new industrial applications.”

Biomicrogels act immediately, effectively remove pollution, and decompose by 98 per cent in 1 day; the substances are made from plant raw materials and do not harm nature, preventing or eliminating the harm caused to it. Besides, the company has more than 80 patents in 62 countries, including the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

The company has more than 100 employees, has 4 chemical laboratories, and 2 production facilities.

Use of Biomicrogel?

The microgels have been generally used in medicine for targeted drug delivery in the human body. The company has developed a new Biomicrogel formulation based on common beetroot pulp and pomace, sunflower anthodium, chemical cellulose, starch et al, to make them available for new industrial applications.

Operating in the B2B and B2C sector, Biomicrogel cleans industrial wastewater from oils and petroleum products, eliminates oil spills, increases vegetable oil extraction, and produces eco-friendly home care products.

For instance, back in June-August 2020, the company’s water purification products liquidated one of the most significant environmental disasters – the diesel fuel spill accident in Norilsk, Russia.

Currently, the company participates in the competition to service Rotterdam and Antwerp’s ports and introduces its technology at palm oil factories in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Wonder Lab – eco-friendly home care products

In 2019, the company released a line of eco-friendly home care products based on biomicrogels under the brand – Wonder Lab. The line includes products for house cleaning, laundry, gel for washing children’s dishes and toys, foam for cleaning fruits and vegetables, and other products.

The company has recently introduced its first pet care products as well. And this year, Wonder Lab will expand the range to 90-100 items. Its products are already sold in major chain stores throughout Russia, and soon will be available in the global market.

Gregory Berenstein, current round’s investor, says, “I’m sure the future of the home care and industrial markets lies in modern, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly products. Biomicrogel Group is just beginning to conquer large-scale industries in terms of volume – the home care products market is valued at $170B, the vegetable oil market at $230B, and the industrial water market at $16.5 B. I’m convinced with the results the team has already achieved and believe in their potential to take a leadership position in the global market.”
