Norway-based BRUDELI, an electric transmission technology firm, has raised NOK 15.3M (approximately €1.34M) in a fresh round of funding.
The funds will help the Norwegian company to support the launch of its inaugural Powerhybrid heavy-duty vehicle and advance efforts to develop the hybrid commercial vehicles market.
Investors supporting BRUDELI
The round was led by Hexagon Composites ASA and Leax Group AB, major players in clean fuel and transmission components for commercial vehicles.
Hexagon Composites ASA and LEAX Group AB invested NOK 5M (nearly €437K) and NOK 3M (nearly €262K), respectively. Additional funding was provided by other existing and new shareholders.
Tony Nicol, CEO at Leax says, “As a long-term investor in BRUDELI, we are excited to welcome Hexagon as an investor and their addition as a collaborator within the BRUDELI team.”
“Our strong co-operation has led to this point where the technology of the Powerhybrid is taking a major step forward with the launch of a test vehicle in 2024.”
“The need for innovative solutions for decarbonisation has never been greater and we are confident that the BRUDELI team of innovators will continue to deliver groundbreaking technology,” adds Nicol.
The Powerhybrid transmission module technology
BRUDELI’s Powerhybrid transmission module technology enables commercial vehicles to switch between traditional and low-emission fuels. This innovation allows heavy-duty fleets to achieve zero emissions in urban areas with strict air quality regulations while maintaining range during travel between markets.
Eric Bippus, EVP Sales & Systems Development, Hexagon Agility says, “BRUDELI has a very exciting technology. We believe hybrid could play a role in commercial trucking in the future and we want to take an active role in bringing that to the market.”
Teaming up with Hexagon Agility, a subsidiary of Hexagon Composites, BRUDELI aims to penetrate the Class 7 and 8 North American truck market.
Leveraging Hexagon Agility’s CNG/RNG systems and BRUDELI’s hybrid technology, the joint effort plans to introduce pilot trucks with this technology on the roads by 2025.
Lasse Bjørkhaug, CEO at BRUDELI says, “The truck segment makes up more than 25 per cent of overall CO2 emissions in the transport sector. Our electrified truck powertrain solution is designed to enable heavy-duty fleet owners to operate at zero emission within cities using battery-electric, and at low emission on long-distance routes using green fuels.”
The BRUDELI Standalone Powerhybrid empowers long-haul trucks to run on 80 per cent electric energy, using a dual electric motor system with clutches and gears. Its design facilitates transitions between serial and parallel hybrid modes, eliminating power loss during gear changes.
“With the international market reach of Hexagon and the transmission competence of Leax, we will take the next step in commercialising our technology, with the goal of putting our first trucks on the road in 2025,” adds Bjørkhaug.
Brief about BRUDELI
Founded in 2019 by Geir Brudeli, BRUDELI Green Mobility AS aims to introduce electrified transmission solutions to accelerate the transportation industry’s alignment with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
Founder Brudeli conceived the idea of a cost-effective method for electrifying heavy commercial vehicles by integrating with existing drivetrains and Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT).
The company’s solutions for the EU and North American truck drivetrain market aim for serial production by 2026.
