Amsterdam-based Cheflix, aka the “Netflix of Star Chefs”, announced on Monday, October 23, that it has secured €1M in a fresh round of funding. The startup offers a streaming platform that provides masterclasses from Michelin chefs and experts.
Prior to this round, in November 2021, the Amsterdam-based streaming platform raised €2M in funding.
The latest investment came from various investors, including the founders of startups Creative Fabrica and Studocu. Despite interest from a major US media conglomerate, Cheflix founders Thomas van Burg and Jeroen van den Brink chose to collaborate with local investors.
Besides the funding, Cheflix is also set to launch a crowdfunding campaign in partnership with the Dutch platform Crowdaboutnow. This initiative aims to expand the company’s community by allowing individuals to invest with promising returns.
“Learn from the world’s greatest chefs”
Cheflix, founded in 2021 by Thomas van Burg and Jeroen van den Brink, is a streaming platform catering to cooking enthusiasts and food lovers.
Renowned Michelin star chefs like Jacob-Jan Boerma, Ron Blaauw, and Hans van Wolde provide step-by-step instructions, enabling users to prepare delicious dishes quickly and easily.
Cheflix offers access to world-class online masterclasses that can be watched at one’s convenience. Each masterclass comprises around 15 video lessons, each lasting 5-10 minutes, allowing users to learn at their own pace.
Additionally, users can download workbooks containing recipes for note-taking and convenient shopping lists.
Jeroen van den Brink says, “From our user data research, we noticed that Cheflix members have increasingly been using the platform as their cookbook rather than a streaming platform. The demand for more content continued to grow.”
“In addition to recipes, Cheflix now also offers videos featuring useful cooking techniques and other kitchen tips from top chefs around the world.”
Since its launch in early 2021, Cheflix claims to have experienced rapid growth, boasting a membership of over 60,000 from 30 different countries.
Capital utilisation
Cheflix says it will use the funding to develop a dedicated mobile app and create new content. The company’s aim is to expand its offerings by providing masterclasses from the top 100 restaurants in the Netherlands.
Besides recipes, these masterclasses will also cover essential cooking techniques like onion cutting and tomato peeling.
Additionally, the investment will aid members in crafting personalised menus for home cooking experiences.
Cheflix App and AI
With the launch of the new content website, Cheflix will also introduce an app that allows cooking enthusiasts to easily watch Cheflix on their smartphones, tablets, and even TV.
Furthermore, there will be an investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tailor content for each member.
Cheflix is unveiling a new content website along with an app, enabling cooking enthusiasts to access their platform across smartphones, tablets, and TVs.
Additionally, the company plans to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to personalise content for individual members. “For example, vegetarians will not see recipes with meat in their overview,” says Van den Brink.
