Utrecht-based Cordys Analytics, a startup that aims to transform heart care using Artificial Intelligence (AI), has been awarded €650K in funding from Health Holland and the EU.
The grant comes from the Dutch company’s €800K Eurostars grant in June with UMC Utrecht and MedicalCSE.
Connecting human and AI in cardiology
Cordys Analytics is transforming heart care with its AI-powered diagnostic software platform, which is designed to provide clinicians with advanced ECG analysis.
The platform enhances the accuracy and timeliness of heart disease detection by identifying subtle patterns in ECG data that traditional methods might miss.
This early and precise diagnosis helps prevent complications and reduces overall healthcare costs by minimising hospitalisations.
The software’s vendor-agnostic, cloud-based architecture ensures integration with various ECG devices and healthcare systems, offering real-time data analysis and scalability.
Through global research collaborations, Cordys Analytics demonstrates the potential of ECG-based AI to improve patient outcomes and support a more sustainable healthcare system.
Capital utilisation
The funding will enhance Cordys’ AI-powered ECG platform for heart diagnostics and expand its use across hospitals, general practitioners, wearables, and ambulance services.
The AI-ECG platform aims to integrate into healthcare workflows and facilitate the smooth exchange of patient information.
Cordys Analytics: Founded by doctors for doctors
Cordys Analytics, a spin-out from the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), specialises in developing AI-powered algorithms for heart disease detection using electrocardiograms (ECGs).
The company originated from research initiated in 2018 by René van Es, an associate professor of cardiology, and Rutger van de Leur, a medical doctor and PhD student.
Their work focused on creating advanced machine learning algorithms with the support of UMCU’s dataset of over 1.5 million annotated ECGs, surpassing the performance of existing ECG software.
In 2023, Cordys Analytics was officially established with John van den Berg as CEO, and it entered a long-term collaboration with UMCU. The company unites clinicians, engineers, and data scientists to advance innovation.
Cordys Analytics showcases how academic research can be effectively transformed into practical solutions, offering the potential to improve healthcare outcomes.
