Last update:

Every day, field technicians have to manage thousands of maintenance and deployment interventions on telecommunications networks. In such a line of field work, the variety of situations they encounter makes it difficult to control and guarantee quality standards. This is where Deepomatic wants to make a difference for these technicians.

The company believes artificial intelligence (AI) and vision application are the solutions to accomplish these operations without loss of productivity.

Deepomatic raises funds

In a recent development, Paris-based Deepomatic, a platform that lets professionals build custom image recognition AI and deliver computer vision systems to clients, has raised €2.3M in a fresh round of funding from Swisscom Ventures – the investment arm of the Swiss national operator, and Octave Klaba – CEO of OVH.

Industrial visual recognition

According to the European Commission’s objectives, every European household should have access to an internet connection of at least 100 Mbps by 2025. To achieve this goal, Deepomatic uses image recognition and AI to assess the state of fiber installations and guide technicians to successful task completion.

Founded in 2014 by Alois Brunel, Augustin Marty, and Vincent Delaitre, Deepomatic offers a platform for business users to design, train and improve advanced vision applications tailored to their business needs.

The platform’s no-code and intuitive interface allows business organisations to benefit from computer vision without development skills, while data scientists make use of the most advanced features to push the performance of the vision applications ever higher.

The company has offices in Paris and New York.

Growth and development

According to the company, Deepomatic’s AI has already assisted over 1 million operations in 2020 and is planning for more than 2 million operations over 2021. Major European network operators, including Bouygues Telecom and Swisscom, are using Deepomatic to connect subscribers.

With focus on the telecom industry, Deepomatic has tripled its recurring revenue in 2020 alone and believes the trend will continue in 2021.

Augustin Marty, CEO of Deepomatic, says, “We estimate that over the next 10 years, all companies with significant field operations (telecom, construction, infrastructure, and energy) will use image recognition to optimise field processes, just as other industries (financial services, insurance, etc.) have been able to do with CRM and back-office process automation.”

Marty further adds, “Our strategy and all our investments are going in this direction. We are developing, in collaboration with our customers, a disruptive solution. The entry of Swisscom Ventures is, in this respect, extremely significant: they have upgraded from being a customer to a partner. Octave Klaba’s involvement is just as significant, as it will help us reach our goal to take part in the creation of a strong European ecosystem in artificial intelligence (AI).”

Funds for Deepomatic’s European development

The raised capital will be used by the company to further develop its platform in Europe and address all field services management issues such as process optimisation to support technicians in the field, operations traceability, quality management, particularly in the telecom sector.

Investors aim to build the future of field operations management

With this development, investor Swisscom intends to introduce Deepomatic to its partners and to work alongside the company to build the future of field operations management together.

Dominique Mégret, Head of Swisscom Ventures, says “The teams at Swisscom selected Deepomatic’s computer vision solution to equip all our technicians, because it would help us keep delivering a reliable quality service to our customers, while remaining at the forefront of technological innovation.”

Octave Klaba, the founder of OVH – a web hosting provider, has made a personal investment in this fundraising.

Won EIT Digital Challenge 2020

Last year, in November, Deepomatic won the first prize as one of the EIT Digital Challenge 2020 winners. The French scaleup’s visual recognition technology won them the grand prize.

EIT Digital Challenge is the flagship competition of EIT Digital, which is a pan-European organisation aimed at promoting innovation, education, and entrepreneurship in digital technology. It aims at global impact through European innovation boosted by entrepreneurial talent and digital technology. It helps businesses and entrepreneurs to be at the frontier of digital innovation by providing them with technology, talent, and growth support.

EIT Digital Challenge 2021 is the 8th edition of this flagship competition for European digital deep tech scaleups. The best three companies will receive prizes totalling €250K in cash and in kind. The application deadline is 10th May 2021. Interested scaleups can apply here.
