Delft-based FieldFactors has raised €1.65M in a funding round to support the growth of its local rainwater reuse systems. The oversubscribed round attracted investors from Europe, the US, and Latin America.
The investment was led by Dutch impact investor Connect the Drops, with additional participation from Tailwind Climate, Amplifica Capital, Vanzal Limited, and the Water Innovation Fund.
The investors are contributing capital along with sector-related knowledge and networks to support FieldFactors’s efforts in urban water management.
Karina Peña, CEO & co-founder of FieldFactors, says, “We help cities capture every drop and reuse it smartly. Our goal is simple: make rain part of the solution, not the problem.”
“This funding marks a key milestone for FieldFactors as we shift from pilot projects to large-scale implementation. We are proud to work with cities, developers and corporate partners to make urban water systems more circular, resilient and future-proof.”
On a mission to make cities green, healthy and future-proof
Founded in 2016 by Karina Peña and Wilrik Kok, FieldFactors addresses water management challenges that cities face due to climate change impacts, including droughts, floods, and rising temperatures. It provides technology that captures rainwater at the source rather than allowing it to go to waste.
The company develops BlueBloqs technology, which captures rainwater where it falls, purifies it through biofiltration processes, and stores it underground. This stored water can then be used for irrigation of green spaces, building cooling systems, or aquifer recharging.
FieldFactors serves cities, industries, and developers across the Netherlands, Spain, and Mexico. Their systems aim to reduce flooding, address drought conditions, and support urban cooling and greening initiatives.
The BlueBloqs technology has been implemented in cities including Rotterdam, The Hague, and Madrid. These installations have demonstrated results in reducing stormwater runoff and decreasing potable water consumption while contributing to urban environments.
CEO & co-founder, Peña, says, “We help cities stop wasting rainwater. By reusing it locally, we reduce stress on infrastructure and support greener, healthier neighbourhoods.”
Capital utilisation
FieldFactors will use the funding to accelerate growth and expand operations globally. The company plans to scale up production of BlueBloqs technology to enable broader market adoption.
The funds will support establishing operations in European markets and launching initial projects in Mexico, which represents the company’s entry into Latin America.
Latin America is already experiencing significant water-related issues, and Mexico is among the most affected. The country faces both flooding and water scarcity. Intense rainfall regularly floods urban areas, causing more than $230M in damages each year. At the same time, projections indicate that Mexico could face severe water shortages by 2040 due to climate change (Cruz Ayala and Megdal, 2020).
“Mexico shows exactly why circular water systems are urgently needed. It’s the ideal place to start bringing our solution to Latin America,” says Peña, CEO & co-founder of FieldFactors. These combined pressures highlight the need for investment in alternative water supply solutions that can manage excess rainfall while addressing growing demand.
FieldFactors also looks to strengthen both technical and commercial teams to handle increased demand and deliver impact at scale.
What do the investors have to say?
Jan Otto Ooms, Partner at Connect The Drops, mentions, “The elegance of the BlueBloqs system is that the concept is simple to explain, and it will convince a lot of people of the benefits. FieldFactors had the product and the team to deliver its impact at scale, helping communities to rethink their rainwater management.”
Anna Raptis, Founding Partner at Amplifica Capital, adds, “FieldFactors is redefining how cities and industries manage water. Their technology not only cuts stormwater discharge costs by up to 20 per cent and reduces potable water use by as much as 80 per cent, but also delivers real environmental and financial value.”
“What sets them apart is their ability to serve both industrial clients and local communities—like in their recent aquifer recharge project with Microsoft in Madrid. With strong traction in Mexico and a team deeply committed to livable, green cities, we’re excited to help them grow their impact across Latin America.”
