Paimio, Finland-based Rester Oy, a mechanical textile recycling company, recently announced that it has secured €4.9M in its second funding round.

The company raised funding from existing shareholders including Lindström Oy and Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment Ltd) as well as new investors.

The Finnish company will use the funds to accelerate growth through expansion of its international customer base, as well as while focusing on product development initiatives.

In addition, the company will continue building its core team, while assessing alternatives to invest in automation.

“The completion of our funding round marks a significant milestone in Rester’s journey to drive and scale efficient usage of diverse recovered textile materials, by developing circular solutions for a wide range of applications,” says Joachim Colliander, CEO of Rester.

Rester: Textile recycling solutions

Led by Joachim Colliander, Rester offers textile recycling solutions that can be used to process end-of-life textiles and by-products of manufacturing into recycled fibers and high-quality raw materials.

The company utilises both closed-loop and open-loop recycling processes, combined with a circular business approach, to deliver the most efficient methods for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and optimizing production while minimising resource consumption.

By increasing the use of recyclable fibers in textile production, they can decrease the demand for virgin materials.

This strategy conserves natural resources such as land and water for future needs, resulting in a lighter environmental footprint.

During the process, the textiles are opened mechanically back into fibers.

The company’s recovered fiber can be used by a great diversity of sectors to replace virgin raw materials.

The company’s customer base consists both of businesses that supply end-of-life textiles and businesses that use recycled fiber for their products.

The Finnish company’s mission is to find the best possible usage for each material type. Rester fibre products have received the GRS certificate.
