In general, recreational fishing is a high‐participation activity with huge economic value and social benefits across the world. In Europe, there are many methods involved including both active (e.g. spear, hand‐gathering and rod and line) and passive (e.g. pots, set‐lines, nets, and traps) ways.
Fundraising campaign
Also called as Sporting fishing, it is done for pleasure or competition. In an attempt to reinvent the sports fishing sector, Fishtripr, a Belgian startup has secured a €500,000 fundraising campaign.
This second funding round was led by investors such as Kima Venture, Leansquare, Digital Attraxion and Olivier Coune. So far, the company has raised a total of €750K in funding over 2 rounds.
Allow you to book a fishing spot!
For fishing fans, it is not always easy to find the perfect place to practice your favourite sport. The company’s objective here is simple: to connect the professionals of the sector and the fishermen in need of adventure.
Based out of Brussels, this new platform will allow you to book a fishing spot at sea or in the river. It will also facilitate the search, comparison and booking of your fishing by centralizing all offers available on the market.
How was Fishtripr born?
The idea of Fishtripr started way back in 2017 with a trip to Patagonia. Just before the trip, Quentin, CEO & Co-Founder spent around 3 months trying to find a guide to set up a camp and fish the first fishes of the season in some rivers. Despite lots of effort, he didn’t find what he was looking for.
However, a couple of weeks after in Patagonia, he finally met Marcelo, a fishing guide with extensive knowledge of the area. On the other hand, Marcelo (the fishing guide) was also struggling to connect to customers due to lack of revenue. And so the idea of Fishtripr was born.
Bridges the gap!
By creating an online marketplace, Fishtripr aims to bridge this gap and revitalize the sports fishing scene by facilitating not only the booking of experiences among experienced fishermen but also by allowing the general public to discover this sport, previously reserved for connoisseurs and enthusiasts.
Moreover, the online platform is also intended to be an instrument to help professionals in the sector to live from their passion by digitising their profession.
Nearly 150 destinations on 5 continents and even close to home are available on the site. Fishtripr has partnered with fishing guides and local experts all over the world to help you craft the ultimate fishing experience or simply catch your first fish.
Reason behind developing Fishtripr Manager!
According to the startup, the concept is attractive since 95% of professionals are interested in a better online presence and more efficient management of their bookings. Fishtripr has therefore decided to continue its development by offering a brand-new product to its partners; Fishtripr Manager.
“Fishtripr aims to bring real innovation to this market by allowing professionals to manage their reservations from A to Z in a conversation space. Imagine Whatsapp but for professionals, able to send a quote and capture a payment directly into a chat,” explains Quentin Walravens.
Duo is passionate about fishing!
The company was founded by Quentin Walravens and Maxime Jean, the duo has experienced in both sports and online marketplaces. Its CEO, Quentin Walravens, is a passionate fisherman and experienced entrepreneur who founded The Fork in Belgium, which was acquired by TripAdvisor in 2014. Maxime Jean, CMO, brings to Fishtripr proven expertise in many fields of digital marketing and new technologies.
