France and Benelux are the hot new job locations for tech workers

The U.S. steals the biggest share of the spotlight when it comes to tech: In 2022, the nation came out top with investment equalling 4.3 times more than China, and 7.7 times more than the UK, according to TechNation

Not only does it top the investment charts. As the world’s largest economy, this makes it very attractive for companies either looking to found a firm there, or enter it as a first choice for expansion as it also represents the largest and richest consumer market.

There are other serious players in the field too, such as Europe. Second to the US and ahead of India, the bloc is a serious contender and some standout national performances were recorded last year.

France had a landmark 2022, propelling it into the fourth most funded nation globally. It has overtaken Germany, and is now second to the UK. The annual VC valuation report from Pitchbook shows that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for French and Benelux deal values outpaced the UK and Ireland over the past five years.

In 2022, the median pre-money valuation for France and Benelux rose 23% year-on-year in angel and seed-stage rounds. Those figures rose by 44.9% in early stages, and by 16.7% for venture growth deals.

The labour market in Belgium too, looks positive according to a recent salary guide. Eighty-four percent of Belgian employers are concerned over staff retention, due to heavy workloads, burn-outs and competition.

Additionally, 40% of Belgian hiring managers report that an increasing number of candidates are receiving counteroffers, who then ask for salary increases from their current employers.

In France, the picture looks good too. The France 2030 plan has committed €30 billion in funding to help create “high-tech champions of the future”.

Startup Genome reports that there are 12,000 start-ups in the city’s greater metropolitan area, as well as plenty of recruitment. The 2022 State of European Tech report found that France has seen the strongest growth in tech-focused job searches of any European country.
