Genially, a Spanish startup that makes it easy to create interactive content without the need for programming skills, announced that it has raised $20M (approx €17M) in a Series B round of funding.
The round was led by US venture capital firms 645 Ventures and Owl Ventures. Other investors, including DN Capital and Brighteye Ventures, and entrepreneurs like S16VC and Kahoot founders also participated.
The company says it will use the funds to accelerate growth and product development.

We believe that this round is an important step towards realizing this vision, not so much for the capital received but rather because of the value offered by our new partners.”
To date, the company has raised around $27M (approx €23M) in funding.

Founded by Chema Roldán, Juan Rubio, and Luis García in 2015, Genially is an online tool for creating interactive and animated content. The platform allows anyone to create interactive content, including presentations, infographics, interactive images, maps, quizzes, resumes, and calendars.
Genially was established to meet the needs of corporate clients. But the company says that around 80 per cent of its users are from the education sector.
The company employs around 140 people and has over 10M creators. Its product is available in 190 countries and boasts especially heavy use in countries such as France, Spain, Mexico, and Colombia.

Based out of Silicon Valley, Owl Ventures is known for its investments in the EdTech sector with over $1.3B (approx €1.1B) in assets under management.

Numerous organisations such as the Red Cross, Volkswagen, University of Columbia, Michelin, and Louis Vuitton (LVMH), and a number of educators, students, graphic designers, and startups, use Genially’s platform.
The company offers a freemium version for users to try before purchasing the paid version for a fee. Besides the free version, the company offers three plans:
