Last update:

Opting for a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is the smartest way to protect your privacy and maintain data security if you thoughtlessly connect with public Wi-Fi networks often.

But, settling for a free VPN isn’t always a great idea since some providers with evil intentions may track your internet activities and sell that data. Having said that, choosing the right VPN from hundreds of VPN providers can be a daunting task.

VPN by Google One

And now, the search engine giant Google has its own, but not for all! Google announced its VPN service to Google One users on the 2TB plan or higher to provide an extra layer of online protection for your Android phone.

Larissa Fontaine, Director, Google One, says, “We already build advanced security into all our products, and the VPN extends that security to encrypt all of your phone’s online traffic, no matter what app or browser you’re using. The VPN is built into the Google One app, so with just one tap, you can rest assured knowing your connection is safe from hackers.”

To reiterate, VPN is a service that allows users to connect to the Internet through an encrypted tunnel ensuring online privacy and data protection. It is often used in various scenarios – using a public Wi-Fi hotspot, making browsing data private, and hiding IP addresses.

Other benefits

Right now, Google One service starts at 100GB (€1.99 per month), 200GB (€2.99 per month), and goes up to 2TB (€9.99 per month). To make use of the service, users need to join the 2TB plan. Besides VPN, users will also get other benefits like better support, Gold Status on Google Play Points, Pro Sessions, and 10% back on the Google Store.

With Pro-sessions, users can schedule one-on-one online sessions with a Google expert to learn more about VPNs and how to stay safer online. It’s worth mentioning here that the Pro-sessions are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fontaine adds, “If you’ve shared your 2 TB Google One plan with family members (up to five additional people), they can also enable the VPN on their own devices at no extra cost.”

Availability

As per the company claims, the VPN will roll out in the United States in the coming weeks through the Google One app (Android only) and will expand to more countries and iOS, Windows, and Mac in the coming months. Further, the Pro Sessions will also be available in the coming weeks to all 2 TB members in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
