The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak has resulted in huge demand for video conferencing tools. This demand led to the sudden popularity of Zoom, a video conferencing tool that was criticised heavily for privacy and security issues. And, it has urged tech giants to come up with similar tools that can capitalise on the need of the hour.
Google Meet is a video conferencing app and a business version of Hangouts. It is suitable for businesses of any size and integrates with G Suite versions of Gmail and Google Calendar to show the list of participants and scheduled meetings.
Google Meet gets new features
In a recent development, Google Meet has added a tiled layout for larger cells, noise cancellation, and low-light mode. Detailing on the new features, the new tiled layout of Google Meet is a major usability improvement. It supports up to 16 participants at the same time. The tiled layout with 4×4 grid is already rolling out to the web version of Google Meet and will replace the previous layout supporting four participants.
You can choose options such as Auto, Sidebar, and Spotlight from the ‘More – Change layout’ option in the menu at the bottom right corner. The platform will support more devices with updates to suit larger meetings and better presentation layouts.
Besides these, there is a new feature that will show your entire window or screen. This can be accessed by hitting ‘present a Chrome tab’ option. If you are changing your view to a new tab on Chrome, then a pop-up window will ask if you want to switch to presenting the new tab or presenting the previous tab. This way, you can easily move between tabs and control the information you share.
Google Meet: New Features
The Google Meet platform’s low-light mode will witness Meet leverage AI to adjust the video to make it more visible to other participants in sub-optimal lighting conditions. Notably, this feature will be coming first to the mobile app versions.
The other notable feature of Google Meet can filter out background distractions. It also includes Keystrokes, dark barks, and more. Given the work from home rules followed right now by people across the world, this feature should be rolled out to all G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for education courses online.
