Huawei has been facing a tough time in the US and Europe for the past few months. Following the same, the trade ban came into effect and prevented the sale of telecommunications equipment from the Chinese company with Google mobile services including Google Maps and Google Play.
Without access to popular Google mobile services, Huawei is focusing on selling its most powerful offerings in the Mate 30 series to users in the global markets. This would help it bolster its lead over other Chinese brands.
While Huawei still struggles with the trade ban, it is has announced the new series of Mate 30 smartphones using its inhouse Kirin 990 chipset and other interesting features at an event in Munich recently. If you missed the event, here we have listed all the highlights from the event.
Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro sans Google services
The stars of the show were the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. We have been hearing about these smartphones even before they were launched. After the glitch with Google, there were speculations that these devices from Huawei might not ship with Android. Though the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro run Android 10-based EMUI 10, these do not offer Google services. To resolve this issue, there is Huawei App Gallery with nearly 45,000 apps.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro featuring a 6.5-inch Horizon OLED display is touted to be the closest to being edge-to-edge as it curves towards the sides meeting the frame. This curvature has been possible by ditching the volume rocker for a touch-sensitive zone at the left of the screen. Talking about the standard Mate 30, it is fitted with a 6.62-inch Rigid OLED display. It gets s relatively smaller 4200mAh battery and is IP53 certified. When it comes to the Mate 30 Pro, it gets the power from a 4500mAh battery and is IP68 certified.
Both these new smartphones flaunt a Halo Ring at the rear to house the cameras from Leica. There is a quad-camera setup with slight differences in both these phones. The Mate 30 adorns a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 40MP SuperSensing sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens and a basic Laser Focus sensor. The Pro variant comes with a 40MP Cine sensor, a 40MP SuperSensing sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 3D Depth sensor. The latter can record 4K Ultra HD videos at 60fps. Also, it can record ultra slow-mop videos at 7680fps.
Huawei Mate 30 with 8GB RAM/128GB ROM priced at €799 and the Mate 30 Pro with 8GB RAM/256GB ROM is priced at €1099. There’s a 5G variant of the Mate 30 Pro priced at €1199.
Huawei Mate 30 RS porsche design
The Mate 30 RS porsche design is similar to the Mate 30 Pro in terms of specifications and capabilities except for a few differences including the luxurious case featuring fine leather and a fancy glass insert at the centre. The Mate 30 RS porsche design is priced at €2095.
Huawei Watch GT 2 with two-week battery life
Apart from the Mate 30 series, Huawei Watch GT 2 was also announced at the event in Munich. It is the sequel to the yesteryear model – Watch GT. The latest-generation smartwatch from the company comes with whopping two-week battery life. There is ample storage space, 50m water-resistance and several fitness tracking modes. The Watch GT 2’s 42mm model is priced at €229 while its 46mm variant is priced at €249 and will go on sale in October.
Huawei’s first 4K TV is here!
Lastly, Huawei Vision, the company’s first 4K TV has also been unveiled. It features Quantum Dot and runs Huawei’s own Harmony OS smart platform with access to a ton of smart-connected applications. Interestingly, Huawei Vision 4K TV has a pop-up camera for video conferencing, making it a large-sized smartphone. It comes in various sizes – 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch and a larger 85-inch, which will be available later. The pricing of the Huawei TV is yet to be revealed by the company.
