While we keep talking about tech and the teams behind the tech making things possible, but rarely do women making things possible receive the recognition they so rightly deserve. Inspiring Fifty Netherlands 2019 is an initiative that highlights women who are driving the tech industry in the Netherlands. These women are role models to look up to and the initiative brings more visibility and recognition to them, in order to increase the diversity in the field of technology.
Inspiring Fifty Netherlands has now announced 50 women tech entrepreneurs who are breaking the boundaries of tech. These women are innovators who not only showcase what can be achieved but have gone up against all odds to establish themselves as an example of what women can and do achieve in this sector.
The disparity in male and female-led startups
As per a research performed in 2018 by investors Eva de Mol and Janneke Niessen, women-led startups are less likely to receive funding from VC investors. The research analysed 40 investment funds to find that merely 1.6 percent of startups were women-led and an abysmally low 6.8 percent of the venture capital funded start-ups were led by a mixed team. The data highlights how the startup scene is male-dominated and women entrepreneurs, on average, receive smaller amounts.
โAs a technology sector we are missing a huge opportunity worldwide. Both from an economic and socio-emotional point of view, gender parity is of great value. Therefore we must now fight with all our might to achieve it,โ says Steven Schuurman, Founder of Elastic The Inspiring Fifty Netherlands event recognises female innovators who were able to overcome such hurdles. These women would inspiring future leaders and entrepreneurs to follow in their footsteps.
