Italy’s Supermercato24 acquires Poland-based Szopi to take its online grocery delivery business to next level

The online grocery market is poised to grow as it helps people save the time they spend travelling to a supermarket, pushing the cart down the aisle and waiting in long lines to checkout. Of course, online grocery shopping is convenient but that’s not all. It also lets buying a range of products that are not commonly found in supermarkets and buyers need not compromise on the quality or price of the product.

There are a handful of online grocery delivery startups in Europe. One such startup is Italy-based Supermercato24. Founded by Federico Sargenti in 2014, this startup connects both customers and personal grocery shoppers in a locality. It is teamed up with major local and global supermarket chains, including Carrefour and LIDL in Italy and lets partners digitise their assortment, manage payments, make deliveries, and provide customer care support.

Acquired Polish startup Szopi.pl

In a recent development, the company acquired a Polish on-demand grocery delivery startup Szopi.pl. As of now, the terms of this acquisition remains undisclosed, but it is said to involve both stock and cash. Notably, the Poland-based startup raised €1.7 million funding from investors, including Impera Alfa.

Executives will join Supermercato24

The full integration of both platforms will be completed in early 2020. As a result of the acquisition, the founders of Szopi.pl, Jan Potworowski and Konrad Koryciński will join Supermercato24 and focus on Business Development and Operations. Also, the Italy-based startup will be able to work with the retailers such as Auchan and Carrefour that have partnered with Szopi.pl.

Offers same-day delivery!

Supermercato24 claims to be a segment leader in Italy. It lets customers order from local supermarkets. Also, the startup ensures same-day delivery or one-hour delivery within an additional cost. As of now, this online grocery delivery startup operates in 31 Italian cities.
