Amsterdam-based JOIN, an app for custom-made training plans for recreational cyclists, announced that it has secured €1.5M in a fresh round of funding.
The startup will use the funds to bolster its team, broaden its services, and target international expansion, particularly in the UK and US. The next funding round is anticipated in mid-2025.
An advanced cycling app to improve your ride!
Founded in 2020 by former professional cyclist and experienced trainer Jim van den Berg, JOIN aims to empower recreational cyclists by providing effective tools to enhance their performance and achieve goals efficiently.
The app offers users access to over 400 workouts developed by professional coaches.
Upon creating a profile, users input data on their physique, experience, and level, along with a personal goal and training availability. JOIN then generates a personalised training schedule, serving as a 24/7 virtual AI training coach.
Post-training, users can manually input performance data or integrate statistics from platforms like Strava, Garmin, Trainingpeaks, Wahoo and Zwift.
Individual progress and developments, including an estimate of Functional Threshold Power (FTP), are displayed on the JOIN dashboard. The app also allows users to compare their performance with other cyclists using the platform.
JOIN claims that its app stands out for its adaptability and flexibility, thanks to its intelligent algorithm. The training plans automatically adjust based on performance metrics, accounting for skipped sessions or when cyclists surpass planned activities.
The app also consistently offers guidance for improvement, enhancing the user’s overall training experience.
Available in five languages for Android and iOS, JOIN has been downloaded by over 100,000 cyclists globally since its 2020 launch. Nearly 60,000 cyclists have completed JOIN training schedules, earning podium spots for ambassadors like Laurens ten Dam and Thijs Zonneveld.
Capital utilisation
After achieving success in the Netherlands and Belgium, JOIN is poised for further growth with funding from a Dutch investor experienced in health, fitness, and technology.
The funds will be allocated to expanding the team, enhancing the product, and fueling international expansion.
To cater to the trend of cyclists adopting multiple activities, JOIN will also introduce a feature integrating running into training schedules by mid-2024.
The company’s primary focus for international expansion is on the UK and US, with larger populations of recreational cyclists. JOIN aims to capture these markets, leveraging the funding received.
