Ghent-based Jurimesh, a legaltech company, announced that it has raised €1.6M in a pre-seed funding round led by international investment network Syndicate One.
Syndicate One is an international network of startup founders, operators, and venture capitalists making early-stage investments in the most ambitious Belgian entrepreneurs.
“We believe Jurimesh is charting a new path in legal tech at a time when the market is increasingly eager for AI-driven solutions,” says Hans Kayaert of Syndicate One. “While legal AI has so far largely focused on broad horizontal applications, Jorrit and Jasper impressed us with their sharp focus on perfecting the specific task of legal due diligence — demonstrating the next chapter in the evolution of legal AI.”
Several business angels also participated in the funding round.
It includes Matthias Geeroms (Lighthouse), Jeroen De Wit (Teamleader), Roeland Delrue (Aikido), Michiel Bearelle (Officient, Vendorvue), Kris Moeremans (Intersentia), Marc Coppens (Yuki), Koen Vandaele (Deloitte), Anthony De Clerck (Dovesco), Michiel Denis (Aikido, former Henchman), and many more.
Fund utilisation
The Belgian company will use the funds to expand its AI team to enhance our proprietary algorithms and develop more advanced legal reasoning capabilities to improve the identification of risk indicators.
Jurimesh will use the capital to broaden its market presence across Europe by expanding its commercial team and establishing strategic partnerships.
Additionally, the company will allocate funds to develop new features to automate legal due diligence, eliminating manual repetitive work.
“The legal industry has tolerated inefficiency for too long. We’re here to change that,” said Jorrit Willaert, CEO of Jurimesh. “This funding allows us to push our technology further and redefine how legal teams approach legal due diligence and contract analysis.”
Birth of Jurimesh
Two years ago, Jorrit Willaert, a computer science student in Leuven, was passionate about developing AI projects in his spare time.
Understanding the need and significance of a co-founder for his startup, he sought one in an unconventional venue—Bumble’s “Bizz” mode.
There, he met Jasper, a highly skilled developer who shared an interest in Jorrit’s ideas.
After a productive initial meeting, they came up with an AI-powered legal knowledge management tool.
Within a weekend, Jasper had developed a working minimum viable product, allowing Jorrit to begin outreach to potential clients, starting with a local accounting firm.
The software was initially designed to search through legislation and legal files but evolved as they collaborated with M&A law firms, focusing on the pressing need for automation in the tedious and time-consuming process of legal due diligence.
Jurimesh: Automates legal due diligence
Jurimesh automates legal due diligence from start to finish, transforming tedious manual work into efficient, data-driven insights.
With a single click, users can import or synchronise their data room.
The AI-powered software automatically organises documents according to the user’s information request list and quickly identifies any missing files.
Once the data room is complete, Jurimesh analyses each document to extract key information, flag potential issues, and detect inconsistencies that might go unnoticed.
Legal professionals have full control over the process. They can easily adjust the analysis to fit the specifics of their deal, provide feedback directly within the platform, and review the generated insights without difficulty.
When the analysis is finished, a clear, professional report is available for download and sharing with colleagues or clients.
Jurimesh eliminates repetitive search tasks, improves accuracy, and allows teams to concentrate on what truly matters: delivering high-quality legal advice.
Currently, the company works with leading law firms like Andersen, Grant Thornton, and many boutique M&A firms.
