As there is a demand for more sustainable agricultural practices, several startups have deployed robots at farms. This is a part of urban farming, which is a modern agricultural concept that enables companies to grow and deliver high-quality food with minimal waste within a small footprint.
While there are many companies that specialise in urban farming, Escalquens-based Naïo Technologies specialises in agricultural robots that let it handle different types of crops. It manufactures and markets agricultural robotic solutions in collaboration with farmers.
Secures €14M funding
In a recent development, the French startup Naïo Technologies raised €14 million funding in a round led by Bpifrance The other participants that took part in the funding round are Impact investor Pymwymic and previous shareholders Capagro and Demeter.
With this investment, Naïo Technologies will capitalise its position as a segment leader in the field of agricultural robotics. It will also reach the next level of maturity in this area to prepare robots for mass production.
What does this French startup do?
Founded in 2011 by Aymeric Barthes and Gaëtan Séverac, Naïo Technologies’ weeding robots care for both the environment and people and provide a solution that assists farmers in their everyday work, limit the use of chemical weedkillers, and minimise the strenuous physical workload.
Also, Naïo Technologies has developed a navigation system for agricultural robots. It can be implemented on any off-road robot that enables address the needs of various crop types.

“We are very proud to announce our investment in Naïo Technologies as a pioneer in agricultural field robotics. Naïo enables farmers to transition their farms using the rise in precision farming and sustainable farming, and allows them to meet both customer demand and current and forthcoming regulatory constraints regarding the limitation of chemical inputs in the fields,” said Laura Panquet, Ecotechnologies Fund of Bpifrance.
