The world of taxis was reinvented due to cab-hailing services such as Uber that leveraged the popularity of smartphones. Due to the affordable cost of such services, this industry became an instant hit. Now, the mobility market across the world has witnessed a rapid change due to major tech trends including electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles and connectivity. Especially, electric scooters have taken the industry by storm due to the high level of convenience that is offered.

The Netherlands is no exception and there are many electric scooter startups in the country. Etergo is an Amsterdam-based electric scooter startup that is quite popular across the world. The company was on a quest to build a manufacturing base for AppScooter, its fully electric scooter. Now, it has appeared to have made a decision.

Why Technologies Added?

Recently, Etergo has teamed up with Technologies Added, an experienced manufacturing company in Emmen to build its scooter in the Netherlands. After examining more than 60 potential partners to manufacture the AppScooter, Technologies Added was chosen as it focuses on the cutting-edge Industry 4.0 manufacturing practices that are in line with Etergo’s vision.

Moreover, the Emmen-based manufacturer is just two hours from Etergo so that it is easy to startup the production and manage potential changes in the future. Furthermore, Technologies Added provides space to ramp up production to 60,000 units per year. It is the first large scale electric motorcycle factory in the Netherlands.

Tesla on 2 wheels!

Founded in 2014 by Bart Jacobsz Rosier and Marijn Flipse, Etergo (formerly known as Bolt Mobility) launched the revolutionary AppScooter. This fully electric scooter has become the global market leader as it reduces pollution. Inspired by Tesla, AppScooter takes electric vehicle industry to the next level by combining it with smart features. It unifies music, safety, communication and more in the vehicle. Notably, it is the first smart electric scooter.

Future proof Industry 4.0 Smart Factory

Technologies Added was established in 2017 after the Philips plant was closed. Its vision was to establish the Industry 4.0 Smart Factory in the Netherlands. The manufacturer is at the forefront of digital production technologies involved in making Dutch production highly competitive solution for several companies. It is creating a positive impact by partnering with smart cities, clean energy, new mobility and urban technologies.

Supported by Province of Drenthe

The partnership between Technologies Added and Etergo was supported by the Province of Drenthe and the Investment & Development Agency for the Northern Netherlands. Eventually, there will be a boost for south east Drenthe, which will create hundreds of job opportunities in the cleantech industry in the coming years.

Will be available in early 2020

By choosing the Emmen-based manufacturing facility, Etergo will be able to deliver the first electric scooter to customers next year. It hopes to let customers in the Netherlands and Germany purchase AppScooter in the first half of 2020.
