Established in 2018 by Jean-Nicolas Vernin, Jonathan Hattab and Maxime Demeure, MadBox is a merger of two Paris-based game studios. It also aims to open an office in the Spanish capital, Barcelona.

Secures €15M Series A funding

The French startup MadBox has raised $16.5 million (nearly €15 million) Series A funding from Alven. Currently, it has 30 to 40 employees and a business model that is mostly based on ads. Though it is profitable, MadBox wants to tackle a wider range of mobile games ranging from idea games to hyper-casual games.

100M game downloads!

Within months of its launch, the startup released its first game, Dash Valley, which found a spot in the top 50 top free game downloads in the App Store in the United States. Currently, there are three games in the top 10 charts in the US in the free downloads sector, including Idle Ball Race, Sausage Flip, and StickMan Hook. And, it MadBox has generated 100 million game downloads on the whole.

Approach towards gaming

MadBox has followed a careful approach towards growth. The company hires slowly and doesn’t release too many games in a year. Eventually, it has released only limited games since its launch. It reuses assets from one game to another. Also, it tries to apply the same methods of marketing and user acquisition.
