Amsterdam-based Reliving, a second-hand furniture platform, announced that it has secured €684K (at the time of writing this article) through crowdfunding on Oneplanetcrowd.com.

Reliving launched the crowdfunding campaign with a maximum target of €1.5M. So far, 469 investors have contributed to the funding.

Fund utilisation

The company intends to expand its team in web development, marketing, and customer service.

Currently, the company offers 30,000 pieces of furniture and aims to reach 130,000 pieces by 2025.

In addition to the founders, Stichting iFund and Fair Capital Partners invested.

This capital will be used to increase market share in the Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, investments are made in innovation, such as Live Shopping.

After additional growth in the Netherlands and Belgium, Reliving wants to expand internationally.

What does Reliving solve?

Every year, more than 60M pieces of furniture disappear into European incinerators or landfills, and over 10M tons are discarded. Only 10% is reused, according to a European Commission study.

“Disposing furniture too quickly is a waste of scarce raw materials, energy, and damages the climate,” says Ananda van Doorn, founder and CEO.

“Our mission is to make second-hand furniture the first choice and double the lifespan of furniture,” says founder and COO Jody Klaassen. “We do not hide our ambitions in this regard,” adds van Doorn.

Reliving: Marketplace for used furniture & home accessories

In 2019, Ananda van Doorn (CEO) & Jody Klaassen (COO) launched Reliving, the online marketplace for quality used furniture and home accessories.

Ananda and Jody say, “We call on people to give things a new life and also to see what is for sale second-hand. Choose durable quality that stays beautiful for longer. Several large furniture factories wear out stuff as if it were seasonal fashion. This fast furniture, which requires raw materials and energy, no longer fits in this day and age.”

“The climate and our earth are the losers and we want to reverse that trend. Look online and choose from 30,000 items. Our beautiful interiors can also be seen in the Bijenkorf store in Rotterdam,” adds the duo.

The company aims to make buying and selling used interiors as easy as possible so that reusing furniture becomes easier and more common.

The Dutch startup allows users to buy used furniture with the same ease and service as new.

Last year Reliving claimed to have sold 2600 cabinets, making it the highest-scoring category. Sideboards are especially popular, adds the company.

Reliving opened its first second-hand interior store in De Bijenkorf in Rotterdam in January and collaborates with fonQ and VT Wonen. 70,000 people are part of Reliving’s community, claims the company.

In 2021, Reliving participated in The Impact Days, which celebrates ‘Next Level’ entrepreneurship and shows how they contribute to a fair and sustainable future
