Amsterdamse startup Yippie krijgt 6 ton voor offline shopping-app

De Amsterdamse shopping-startup Yippie heeft 600.000 euro aan verse funding binnen gehaald. Yippie helpt de consument met dealtjes door tijdens het online winkelen via een browser-plugin de laagste prijs op internet te scoren. De funding is afkomstig van ‘gerenommeerde investeerders en ondernemers’; namen en rugnummers blijven achterwege.

Beste deal

Het Amsterdamse Yippie heeft een platform ontwikkeld dat constant prijzen vergelijk van zo’n 2700 retailers. De startup claimt daarmee een dekking van zo’n 80 procent van de Nederlandse e-commerce websites. Door de browser-plugin te installeren kunnen mensen bij het bekijken van een product in een webwinkel direct zien of er ergens anders een betere deal is. Dat kan zijn een tijdelijke aanbieding of actieprijs, maar Yippie ziet ook of andere winkels misschien mooie accessoires bijleveren.

Ontwikkeling voor Android en iOS

“Deze investering stelt ons in staat om verder te werken aan ons doel: het creëren van een naadloze interactie tussen de consument en retailer”, legt Yippie-founder Maurice Kroon uit. “Het geld gaan wij gebruiken om razendsnel de bouw van onze mobiele applicaties voor iOS en Android af te ronden.” De Yippie-app is nu al beschikbaar voor Android en iOS en als browserplugin.

Offline winkelen

De nieuwe, voltooide app moet een stuk meer functionaliteit krijgen, volgens Kroon. “We kunnen nog niet al teveel zeggen over onze nieuwe app, maar wel dat we offline-shoppers op een unieke wijze de beste deal gaan tonen.” Yippie voert momenteel in samenwerking met winkelcentra-eigenaar Wereldhave en enkele retailers een gesloten test uit met een bètaversie van de nieuwe applicatie in Hoofddorp.

Startupbootcamp alumnus

De nieuwe investering van 600.000 euro sluit aan op de eerste investering van 147.000 euro eind 2014. Yippie kreeg toen 15.000 euro ‘startgeld’ bij de toetreding tot het E- & M-Commerce-programma van startup-accelerator Startupbootcamp in Amsterdam en haalde 132.000 euro op door een crowdfundingactie begeleid door Leapfunder. De totale investering in de startup komt daarmee op 747.000 euro. Afgelopen juni sleepte Yippie nog de prijs voor de beste retail innovatie van 2015 in de wacht.
