Weesp, the Netherlands-based Solarix, a startup that designs and supplies innovative coloured solar panels for facades, announced on Friday that it has secured €900K investment from ROM InWest, the regional development agency in North Holland, The Netherlands.

ROM InWest manages two funds – the SME Fund of €60M and the Transition Fund with a target capital of €100M.

The latest investment comes from the Transition Fund, which is designed to support companies whose service or product accelerates the major and necessary transitions of our time.

Three undisclosed investors from the construction sector also participated in the round.

“The agreement between Solarix and ROM InWest was signed on February 8, 2023,” reads the press release.

The capital will help Solarix to accelerate the production of coloured solar panels for facades in response to rapidly growing demand.

“New climate regulations and rapidly rising energy prices are making it increasingly important that buildings generate their energy, in part or in whole,” say founder Reinier Bosch of Solarix.

He adds, “Solar panels usually make the biggest contribution, but especially in high-rise buildings the roof area is often too small to install enough solar panels. Facade panels are the answer.”

“Demand for these is growing rapidly, so we are delighted that our production and number of jobs can be significantly expanded thanks to this investment. It means that Solarix can continue to develop from Dutch frontrunner to a prominent European player,” says Bosch.

Solarix Building with Facade
Kuijpers’ office is the first building in the world to get solar design in the facade.

Solarix: Aesthetic-coloured solar panels for facades

Founded in 2018 by Marloes van Heteren and Reinier Bosch, Solarix designs and manufactures aesthetic coloured solar panels for facades.

By generating energy in facades, Solarix aims to accelerate the energy transition and achieve a minimum reduction of 25 per cent in CO2 emissions or completely energy-neutral buildings.

With its unique colour technology, design collections, and associated mounting system, Solarix says its solar panels can be fully integrated into sustainable and aesthetic facade solutions.

The company’s team consists of people with knowledge of design (from technology to product and visualisation), architecture, project management, physics, solar technology, finance, and sales.

The Investor

ROM InWest is the regional development company for North Holland.

Janet Nieboer, CEO of ROM InWest, says, “ROM InWest is working towards a robust North Holland economy that offers equal opportunities to all and does not harm our planet and climate. By investing in ‘green’, promising companies, we accelerate sustainable innovations that are decisive for the energy transition. Solarix fits that profile perfectly.”
