Rapid urbanisation across the world has made sustainable transport an urgent development priority. In fact, transporting sector is one of the major consumers of energy and a contributor to air pollution as well.

A lot of transport organisations are coming forward through innovative solutions that improve everyday life for people and the cities as well. In an attempt to be part of shaping the future, based on core values of quality of life, safety and environmental care FlixMobility was founded by three young entrepreneurs in Munich who had the vision of making sustainable bus travel both comfortable and affordable.

FlixBus is quite a famous bus service startup in Europe based out of Munich. Recently, the German company has launched its operation in New Orleans, with new routes to cities including Houston and San Antonio. Having said that, the company already has a massive presence throughout California, Arizona and Nevada.

Fares start as low as $4.99

It’s worth mentioning that Flixbus moved into the U.S. last year in an attempt for a broader push into the South. According to the company, the new routes connect New Orleans to Baton Rouge, Houston and San Antonio as well as Biloxi, Mississippi. One-way fares start as low as $4.99 to Houston, and $9.99 to San Antonio.

Green and budget travel

In Europe, FlixBus is the leading platform for long-distance bus services covering 26 countries. FlixBus stands for green and budget travel with high-quality standards. It also offers free WiFi and onboard entertainment, power outlets at every seat and space for two pieces of luggage per person.

Market leader in just four years!

FlixBus was launched in 2013 in Germany after the liberalisation of the national market. Based on an innovative business model, new tech solutions and the cooperation with regional bus companies, the startup built a national network within months and became a European market leader in only four years.

Founded by André Schwämmlein, Daniel Krauss, Jochen Engert, the company is backed by investment companies including Germany’s Holtzbrinck Ventures and U.S.-based Silver Lake Partners and General Atlantic.

Offers sustainable travel!

Those who use FlixBus save 80% CO2 emissions compared to a trip by car. FlixBus network in Germany, allowing people to choose the best method of sustainable travel for their needs. In 2018, FlixBus transported 45 million travellers across Europe and the US.

“Our mission at FlixMobility is to provide options for sustainable, environmentally-friendly travel to fit the wants and needs of travellers across Europe, the United States and in the future even more regions. We truly believe that comfortable, convenient and green travel is possible for everyone.”

Expansion in the process!

As a combination of tech startup, e-commerce platform and transportation company, FlixBus established a network that spans over 29 countries. This year, FlixBus plans to bring its services to Russia and expand across the US. In the US, the FlixBus will compete against native biggies like Greyhound Lines and Megabus.

Pierre Gourdain, managing director of FlixBus USA, said the company aims “to provide convenient transportation and encourage people to park their cars.” That’s a daunting task in the U.S., where bus travel is often seen as a last resort travel option. FlixBus says it’s seen early success. More than 65 per cent of riders on the West Coast, where it launched its first U.S. routes last year, had never taken a long-distance bus before, according to the release. We are ready to do this in the South where the car is king”
