Over the last few years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) investments have become more prevalent, thanks to the adoption and utilisation rate. The AI industry is growing profitable each day with many opportunities and potential for tremendous growth.

Microsoft invests $1 billion!

Recently, the Redmond tech giant, Microsoft has collaborated with OpenAI to build secure, trustworthy, and ethical AI with widely distributed economic benefits. It’s worth mentioning that Microsoft is investing $1 billion as well.

Together, the companies will work to bring supercomputing technologies and AI to Microsoft Azure. Furthermore, Open AI will run its services exclusively on Microsoft’s cloud. The ultimate aim of this partnership is to build Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

What is AGI?

According to the company’s explanation, AGI will be a system capable of mastering a field of study to the world-expert level and mastering more fields than any one human. For example, this tool will be as brilliant as Curie, Turing, and Bach combined.

Capabilities of AGI

An AGI would be able to see connections across disciplines while working on a problem that no human could. Both the companies are building AGI  to work with people to solve current problems, including climate change, affordable and high-quality healthcare, and personalized education.

What’s the deal?

According to the deal signed by both the companies:

  • Microsoft and OpenAI will jointly build new Azure AI supercomputing technologies
  • OpenAI will port its services to run on Microsoft Azure, which it will use to create new AI technologies and deliver on the promise of artificial general intelligence
  • Microsoft will become ‘OpenAI’s preferred partner for commercializing new AI technologies.

Furthermore, the companies will focus on building a computational platform in Azure of unprecedented scale, which will train and run increasingly advanced AI models, include hardware technologies that build on Microsoft’s supercomputing technology.

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said:

The creation of AGI will be the most important technological development in human history, with the potential to shape the trajectory of humanity. Our mission is to ensure that AGI technology benefits all of humanity, and we’re working with Microsoft to build the supercomputing foundation on which we’ll build AGI. We believe it’s crucial that AGI is deployed safely and securely and that its economic benefits are widely distributed. We are excited about how deeply Microsoft shares this vision.

Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft, said:

AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our time and has the potential to help solve many of our world’s most pressing challenges. By bringing together OpenAI’s breakthrough technology with new Azure AI supercomputing technologies, our ambition is to democratize AI — while always keeping AI safety front and center — so everyone can benefit.
