With the increase in online and peer-to-peer payments, several services are emerging to facilitate the same. In a recent development, Shopify Payments has been rolled out in two new markets – the Netherlands and it is also coming to Denmark soon. Shopify is a leading multi-channel commerce platform.

Initially, Shopify Payments was launched in 2013 by Daniel Weinand, Marcie Murray, Scott Lake and Tobias Lütke to let entrepreneurs accept payments both online and in-person sans a third-party merchant account or payment provider.

With the expansion of its service in new markets, this company lets more entrepreneurs around the world accept payments easily. Already, the service was available in many countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Expansion to new markets

Shopify Payments is available in the Netherlands to eligible merchants including iDEAL as the payment method. This payment method is used by Dutch shoppers for online purchases. On the other hand, Danish shoppers can use Visa Dankort’s debit payments. The merchants will be able to sell and get paid either in Euros or Danish Krone.

As the service is on an expansion spree, it is bringing many new tools to reach shoppers across the world. We can expect more local payment methods and countries to get the Shopify Payments service later this year.

Enables faster checkout

The payment solution is integrated within Shopify so that entrepreneurs and merchants can manage both their finances and sales. The service enables faster checkout methods such as Shopify Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and it’s own one-click checkout procedure for repeat customers on Shopify stores. As a result, the service has processed over $16.6 billion worth payments globally last year, which is 64% more than that of the previous year.

Works with partner payment methods

To offer support to merchants across the world, Shopify Payments works with partners to offer popular payment methods preferred by customers. These include bank transfers, invoicing, digital wallets, cash-on-delivery and stored value cards and vouchers. The service helps merchants navigate the complexity and offer the right payment option. Back in 2018, Shopify teamed up with Klarna to provide payment solutions to both shoppers and merchants in Germany.
