Utrechtse startup Revue gaat Mailchimp te lijf met snellere en mooie nieuwsbrieven

Mailchimp aanpakken en doen wat Slack heeft gedaan voor voor groepscommunicatie. Met die grote woorden is vandaag Utrechtse nieuwsbrief startup Revue van Martijn de Kuijper officieel live gegaan.

Pocket, Instagram en Chrome

Revue moet het heel gemakkelijk maken om wekelijks een nieuwsbrief samen te stellen met interessante content. Revue heeft een aantal methodes om dit proces soepel te laten verlopen. Met een Chrome-extensie kan er met één druk op de knop een artikel worden toegevoegd aan de nieuwsbrief, en ook via Pocket zijn met een muisklik items te selecteren om te versturen. Foto’s kun je vanaf je computer slepen, of selecteren van je Instagram account. Andere grote sociale netwerken zijn ook geïntegreerd. Voor een persoonlijk tintje zijn alle teksten voor het versturen naar eigen wens aan te passen. Revue belooft dat het er meteen lekker uitziet. Het gebruiksgemak en de integraties die Slack zo populair hebben gemaakt, maar dan voor het maken van een nieuwsbrief.

Sneller dan Mailchimp

Uiteindelijk moet daar binnen een paar minuutjes een complete nieuwsbrief uitrollen. Iets wat je volgens de maker nooit gaat lukken met Mailchimp. Het is Revue dan ook al gelukt om een klein legertje aan prominente early adopters aan te sluiten. Nalden, Alexander Klöpping, Ernst-Jan Pfauth en Bram Kanstein, voormalig community manager van ProductHunt en oprichter van Startup Stash, verturen hun nieuwsbrieven via Revue. “Met Revue creëer ik mijn wekelijkse nieuwsbrieven in 5 minuten, waar ik vroeger 60 min voor nodig had met MailChimp”, aldus Kanstein. “Ook merk ik dat veel meer mensen mijn berichten lezen, dan als ik ze zou plaatsen op Twitter of Facebook.”

Goede rapportcijfers

Om die laatste claim kracht bij te zetten, deel Revue al wat cijfers uit de beta-periode. Zo claimt het openrates van 40 procent ten opzichte van de 25 procent als industriestandaard. Ook de gemiddelde clickrates liggen met 10 procent nog flink hoger dan de industrie standaard van 3 procent. Dat is op basis van ruim 2000 wekelijkse nieuwsbrieven en meer dan 100.000 mails per maand. Het is natuurlijk maar afwachten of de goede cijfers stand houden naarmate de dienst groeit.

Ervaring van Yunoo en Fosbury

Revue is opgericht door Martijn de Kuijper, die eerder al verantwoordelijk was voor fintech-startup Yunoo dat is overgenomen door AFAS, en beacon-startup Fosbury dat in juni werd overgenomen door Verve Mobile. Voor Revue heeft hij Mohamed El Maslouhi van Yunoo aangetrokken als CTO. Revue werkt op basis van een abonnementsmodel. De eerste 200 abonnees zijn gratis te voorzien van nieuwsbrieven, voor de eerste 1500 betaal je $5 per maand. Ben je populairder dan dat, dan zijn de prijzen in overleg.

SiliconCanals.nl nieuwsbrief

In het kader van disclosure melden we ook nog maar even dat de SiliconCanals.nl nieuwsbrief afkomstig is van een vergelijkbaar initiatief uit de VS, Curated. Inmiddels overwegen we een overstap naar Revue, al is het maar vanwege het warme hart dat wij alles wat #NLTech is toedragen.
