This biotech company with Dutch roots wants your kids to be born in space

Space X and Tesla founder Elon Musk want to colonise Mars! Billionaire entrepreneurs like Richard Branson from Virgin and Jeff Bezos from Amazon are working hard to get the affordable space tourism industry up and running. It seems, in a matter of few years people will be visiting cities in Earth orbit as readily as they travel from Los Angeles to Amsterdam. Imagine! That’s the speed at which technological advancements are happening right now!

Talking about living in space, many things are happening around to make it work. With that being said, how about a space child? While no human has been conceived in space, nonetheless, it might happen very soon and the company likely going to achieve this feat is SpaceLife Origin.

Human reproduction in space!

Headquartered in North Brabant, SpaceLife Origin is the first company to devise a plan that will make the human reproduction in space safely. In view of this, the company has announced their Missions Program 2020-2024 in a bid to secure future human generations beyond Earth.

Based in The Netherlands with representation in the US, SpaceLife Origin is the first biotech company enabling sustainable human life beyond Earth. The company is expected to open satellite location across the globe in 2019 and beyond.

Wannabe multi-planetary species

In an effort to establish the missions program, SpaceLife Origin has collaborated with universities and leading suppliers from the space technology and medical sector. To make it much safer, the missions program is developed in a sequential order, where each previous mission strengthen the outcome of the next missions.

According to Kees Mulder, SpaceLife Origins CEO, the very first baby born in space will be feasible by 2024 thus securing future generations. He also added, “If humanity wants to become a multi-planetary species, we also need to learn how to reproduce in space,” said Mulder.

Earth condition could be extremely challenging over next century

The primary reason behind this initiative is to formulate a backup plan because life on Earth could become extremely challenging over the next century. Having said that, the company is not rushing towards the process, instead makes colonisation efforts sustainable, by researching and executing the conditions for human reproduction in space step by step.

Mulder adds, “Any space company, agency or nation with ambitions to colonise other planets will benefit from partnering with us for the successful completion of their plans.”

Raising funds

When we approached Mulder about funding, he said that SpaceLife Origin is raising a few hundred thousand for a feasibility study in a seed round. Moreover, the discussions are happening with US investors for a new round later on for $12 million to $15 million.

He added, “For Dutch standards, it’s a significant sum, but because we operate on the intersection of space and biotech, it’s manageable. Also with our leadership position in this segment in mind, and with the attractive business model attached. The business model will deliver us a speedily net cash flow and thus, a net profit, primarily from the Mission Ark and Lotus.

Missions!

The company at present working on three missions: Missions Ark, Missions Lotus, and Missions Cradle.

Missions Ark – Safeguard human ‘seeds of life’ in space by 2020

Patent pending technology is the core of SpaceLife Origin Ark, which contains 1.000 protected tubes with human reproduction cells. The cells (male, female and 2-PN) are harvested in approved and supervised IVF clinics worldwide.

Furthermore, the cells are vitrified and stored safely in secure Earth locations and a satellite in space. The real-time tracking and footage from cameras on board enable customers to view and show their ‘seeds-of-life’ cells in orbit.

It is scheduled to be operational by Q4, 2020, where the sign-up process starts Q1 – 2019. The price ranges from $30,000 to $125,000 per set of ‘Seeds-of-Life’ tubes. There will be 750 commercial (for profit) tubes per Ark (+250 Non-Profit tubes to increase the ethnic diversity balance).

Missions Lotus – human conception in space by 2021

The company is developing proprietary technology creating a new ‘Space-Embryo-Incubator.’ This embryo incubator containing male and female reproduction cells is sent into space, upon which the embryos are conceived and start developing.

After 4 days the incubator returns to Earth where the embryos are checked. Notably, the actual pregnancies and births will occur on Earth. With our team of experts, we will ensure the flawless, safe methodology and technology to make this next step in human evolution feasible.

This mission is scheduled to be operational by Q4 – 2021, and the sign-up process starts Q1 – 2019. The price ranges from $250K to $5M depending on priority in the sequence (50 seat permission).

Missions Cradle – human childbirth in space by 2024

A bold yet realistic objective of SpaceLife Origin is the actual birth of the first human baby in space. During a 24-36 hour mission, a woman will give birth at 250 miles above Earth accompanied by a trained, world-class medical team. A carefully prepared and monitored process will reduce all possible risks, similar to western standards as they exist on Earth for both mother and child.

It is scheduled to be feasible by 2024, where the registration and candidate selection starts 2022. Having said that, the pricing, as well as all other terms and conditions, will be disclosed at a later stage.

Who are the Clients?

The early clients for the services of SpaceLife Origin Mission Ark are to be found worldwide. They are:

High net worth individuals – at least 10 million people worldwide are seen as able and prepared to support innovative measurements that help to safeguard their family future heritage and mankind’s future generations

Prepper communities worldwide – 10-15 million people seriously worried about the future of their own families, the society and Earth. This group is willing and capable of investing in protective measurements.

IVF clients – over 6 million couples in the US alone, already involved in the process of harvesting and storing of their ‘seeds-of-life.’ A market with a deep interest in securing, storing and (re) using their ‘seeds-of-life.’

IVF centres – over 1.500 worldwide with over 1.000 in US only, who could further act as strategic medical partners to offer the various SpaceLife Origin services to their client base.

We humans, have this habit of destroying and exploiting things be it any resource, wildlife, marine life, and others. The present situation of the earth is nothing but the result of human callousness. Do you think, we human being will not inflict havoc to other planets if in case, we started to colonise? Do let us know your opinion in the comment section below.
