Swedish firms Tibber, Polarium unites to launch smart consumer battery to lower energy costs

Stockholm-based Tibber, a smart energy provider, announced the launch of a smart and user-friendly consumer battery, Homevolt, in collaboration with energy storage developer Polarium.

With Homevolt battery, Tibber and Polarium aim to make home energy storage widely accessible. This will empower consumers to reduce energy costs while enhancing electrical grid flexibility.

Homevolt combines battery technology from Polarium with the latest energy management software from Tibber. It gives the user complete control over their energy consumption, claims the company. 

Tibber: What you need to know

Tibber is a dynamic energy supplier that helps customers use electricity more efficiently. 

For a fixed monthly amount of €3.99, customers receive green energy at the market price per hour. In addition, they get access to all smart functions in an app to effortlessly reduce their energy bill. 

Through integrations with smart home products, electric cars, and heat pumps, the Tibber app can automatically steer power consumption to the most economical (green) hours.

In this way, customers benefit from affordable electricity prices and contribute to the energy transition. 

Tibber has more than 400,000 customers and is active in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Sweden.

Polarium: What you need to know

Founded in 2015 by Stefan Jansson, Polarium provides energy storage solutions built on lithium-ion technology for the telecom, commercial, and industrial segments.

The Swedish company claims its products enable end-users to optimise energy usage and costs. This is done by storing energy when prices are low and dispatching it when prices are high. It also sells surplus energy back to the grid, maximising renewable energy use.

Its headquarters and R&D centre are in Sweden and its manufacturing facilities are  in Mexico, Vietnam, and South Africa.

The company serves customers worldwide through its global sales channels and presence in Indonesia, New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa, the UK, and the US.
