Believe it or not! The land of Midnight Sun – Norway is the undisputed world leader in electric cars. As per industry figures, around 11,518 EVs were registered in Norway during the first quarter of 2019. The majority of registrations account for Nissan Leaf, new Tesla Model 3, and Volkswagen Golf.
Norway – the Poster child of EV revolution!
Proportionally, Norway roads have far more EV than anywhere in the world. This adoption of electric cars has been driven by a lot of government initiatives like incentives and perks to fight climate change. In addition to it, buyers do not pay import tax and VAT on plug-in cars saving thousands of bucks.
On the other hand, the EV drivers are exempt from many public parking and highway lane restrictions, and they get discounted fares on toll roads, car ferries, and parking. Furthermore, the running cost is cheaper than petrol and diesel, and Norway receives nearly all its electricity from hydropower plants.
Meet Fresco Reverie!
Amid severe competition, Fresco Motors, Norway-based EV startup, has unveiled an interesting new electric sedan – The Reverie. Taking its name from American futurist Jacque Fresco, the Fresco Motors is expected to sell its first electric vehicle sometime in 2021, according to InsideEVs.
Espen Kvalvik, Fresco’s CEO said:
Looking at the statistics, our target group prefers to buy from Norwegian companies. They just haven’t had the opportunity to do it in recent years when it comes to cars. We have, for example, more than 70 Norwegians who have reserved the car, and this without being a known company.
0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds!
Details regarding Reverie right now are hazy, but the performance figures provided by the company is fascinating. The initial numbers offered by the company says that the machine is capable of reaching 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2 second and maximum speeds of 300 kph (186 mph). In addition to that, it is expected to have a long-range along with fast, wireless charging technology.
4-speed automatic gearbox with overdrive!
Fresco will be employing a 4-speed automatic gearbox with overdrive powered by an electric AC induction motor. It’s worth mentioning that Reverie looks somewhere between Tesla Model S and Model 3. In terms of dimensions, the car will be 189.4 inches (4.81 m) long, 87.8 in (2.23 m) wide, and 55.1 in (1.40 m) tall electric sedan with a 108.3 in (2.75 m) wheelbase.
Reservation is on!
There is no information about the pricing, availability of the car yet, but the reservation has started.
Espen Kvalvik, CEO at Fresco Motors, told InsideEVs:Â
The competitors we choose to prioritize in Norway are Nissan with Leaf, Volkswagen with e-Golf, BMW with i3, Tesla with Model S, Kia with Soul Electric and Tesla with Model X, which is due to the fact that they were the six most popular electric cars in Norway in 2018. Of course, we also take the Tesla Model 3 into consideration as well.
