Notion Capital, Europe’s prominent early-stage venture investor in business software and fintech, has announced today the final close of its new €300m fund, Notion Capital V SCSp (“Notion V”). The fund closed at its ‘hard cap’.
Diverse Investor Base
Investors in the new fund comprised a diverse ground, including sovereign wealth funds, endowments, fund of funds, pension funds, family offices and high net-worth individuals from across Europe, MENA and the United States – as well as numerous founders from Notion portfolio companies.
Cortes Capital LLC, KfW Capital, Shelby County Tennessee Retirement System, and TNO Pension Funds are among the new names, while returning LPs include British Patient Capital, Novo Holdings, and RSJ.
Multiple Investments and focus on European Market
In contrast to Notion’s previous funds, Notion V is Euro denominated and based in Luxembourg. It has already made several investments, including Bound, DataOps, M3ter, and Resistant AI, following its first close last year. Notion aims to make approximately 20 core Series A+ investments in total.
“Fund V is large enough to provide meaningful funding to its portfolio companies but crucially, small enough to continue to drive the true outsized venture capital returns we seek for our investors. It’s a great point in the cycle to be investing and the European technology ecosystem has proven to be resilient, innovative and highly productive,” says Stephen Chandler, Managing Partner at Notion Capital.
Senior promotions within Notion Capital
Notion Capital has also announced three senior promotions within its team. Itxaso del Palacio has been appointed as General Partner, while Stephanie Opdam and Kamil Mieczakowski have been elevated to Partner positions.
Del Palacio, a Spanish-Basque national, joined Notion in 2018 from M12 (Microsoft Ventures) and has led investments in notable companies such as Bound, Cledara, Cobee, and Yulife. Opdam and Mieczakowski, Dutch and Polish nationals respectively, have played pivotal roles in strategy, leadership, and sourcing high-potential companies.
Future Plans and Opportunities Fund
Notion expects to launch its third Opportunities Fund in 2024. According to the investor, T=this complementary strategy will invest additional growth follow-on capital into the firm’s best-performing venture assets and selected growth stage business software companies in Europe.
