Last update:

Omeda Studios, a London-based game studio developing community-driven games, announced on Thursday that it has raised $20M (approximately €19.15M) in a Series A round of funding.

The investment comes after the company’s $2.2M (approximately €2.1M) Seed round in March, 2021.

The current round was led by Haveli Investments. Founded in 2021, Haveli Investment is a private equity firm based in Austin, Texas. It invests strategic growth capital in technology and gaming enterprises, as well as top-performing social entrepreneurs.

Existing investors GFR Fund, Possible Ventures, Progression fund, and others also participated in this round.

Capital utilisation

Omeda Studios says that the proceeds will help the company to accelerate hiring and launch Predecessor, a Third Person Action Multiplayer online battle arena, into Early Access later this year.

Omeda Studios’ founder and CEO, Robbie Singh, says, “Over the past year we’ve been working together with our community to really define what a MOBA looks like in today’s day and age. Having a close relationship with our community has allowed us to iterate fast and I think people are going to be extremely excited when they get their hands on the game in Early Access.”

Brief about Omeda Studios

Founded in 2020 by Robbie Singh, Andrea Garella and Steven Meilleur, Omeda Studios is a game studio that builds community-driven games. The company’s first title is Predecessor, a third-person action shooter MOBA that is currently in development for PC and console.

Predecessor has already gathered a dedicated following of more than 35,000 followers on Discord, and well over 100,000 signups ahead of its debut. It is a MOBA game that uses resources from Epic Games’ own MOBA Paragon, which the creator of Unreal Engine decided to shut down in 2018. Epic Games made these resources available to developers free of charge.

Predecessor is a free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game for PC and Console. You and four allies join arms in battle as you fight for glory on the battlefield against enemy heroes on a traditional 3 lane map featuring an interactive jungle, monsters and more.

According to a statement from the company, Predecessor will be released into Early Access later this year following the success of its most recent playtest.

Support from the community and investors

Robbie Singh says, “We decided to raise our Series A to accelerate development after the success of our earlier playtests; however, we weren’t just looking for money. What was most important to us was finding a partner who shared our vision for how we wanted to make games and believed in the power of community. When we met Brian Sheth, his team at Haveli and Thomas Vu, it was clear that we all felt the same about the future of games.”

Robbie also shared, “Thomas has been an integral part of League of Legends and then as Executive Producer on the Netflix hit series, Arcane, he really showed us that we weren’t just partnering with someone who had great ideas but someone who knows what it takes to execute on those ideas.”

Brian Sheth, Founder of Haveli, says, “Robbie and his team have built an engaged community and game using a player-first approach that is incredibly exciting and holds the potential to rapidly become part of the pantheon of the great MOBAs. All of us at Haveli are looking forward to the great things to come from Robbie and Omeda.”
