October 27: Cultural Celebration and Panel Discussion

The summit will begin on Friday evening with the “Fela’s Day Celebration” at Paradiso Tolhuistuin.

The event honours the legendary Fela Kuti and his friendship with hero Thomas Sankara. The night is packed with musical acts that carry on Fela’s legacy, including Bixiga 70 and Kin’Gongolo Kiniata, who fuse African and Latin American rhythms.

The evening begins with a panel discussion exploring topics of collective growth through friendship and the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

The panel features esteemed speakers such as Eliza Anyangwe (Managing Editor at CNN’s As Equals), Lemi Ghariokwu (a fine artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and songwriter), Kemo Camara (founder & CEO, Omek), and more.

October 28: Mentorship and Personal/Professional development

The second day of Omek Summit 2023 focuses on mentorship, and personal and professional development.

The “Nurturing Growth through Mentorship” panel features guest speakers from various backgrounds who share their mentorship journeys.

It’s followed by a “Mentorship Success Workshop” co-hosted with Roots Inspire, empowering biculturals of African descent with practical mentorship skills. Participants will learn how to find the right mentor and nurture meaningful mentor-mentee relationships.

Additionally, there is “Africa and the Future of Tech” fireside chat, where they explore investing in cutting-edge technologies for Africa.

The conversation will explore opportunities in AI, climate tech, ed tech, fintech, and new social tech and their impact on knowledge accessibility and sustainable development for Africa and its people.

The “Community Pitch Night” is a chance to support tech entrepreneurs addressing community challenges.

October 29: Mentorship, Networking, Food and Drinks

The final day brings “Mentors Meet Mentees,” a mini-mentorship programme. If you’re seeking mentorship, this exclusive session is your opportunity.

“Baobab Nights: Sharing Gems” rounds off the summit with networking, food, drinks, and talks, celebrating Black culture and envisioning the future of community building.
