As per the latest announcements, Polarsteps just raised €3 million funding in a Series A round led by INKEF Capital, which brings the startup’s total funding to €4.6 million till date.
One million registered users
With this fund, the Amsterdam-based firm will continue developing its automated travel blogging app and expanding the team. On the other hand, the company also announced that it had broken through the 1 million user mark.
According to the company, one million registered users have collectively traveled over 52 million days on the app, shown on a heat map that the company published today.
Polarsteps: How does it work?
Optimised well for travel, Polarsteps app allows you to automatically record your trip or vacation to share it with your family and friends back at home. In this case, the GPS works independent of mobile reception, where the app syncs its data whenever user cross a pocket of cell reception or when you log in to the Wi-Fi at the cafe or hotel. Once connected to the internet, the app transfers travel routes, key locations and photos to your Polarsteps page on a map.
Business model
Founded by Job Harmsen, Koen Droste, Maximiliano Neustadt, and Niek Bokkers in 2015, Polarsteps makes money by letting users buy Travel Books: instant photo albums of trips that can be ordered at the push of a button.

Furthermore, Polarsteps is used by travellers in over 180 countries to track their journeys and inspire others to get their legs moving.
