Last update:

Germany-based Quantum Systems, an aerial data intelligence company, has raised €160M in new funding. This brings the company’s total funding to €310M.

Balderton Capital led the round, which included participation from Hensoldt, Airbus Defence and Space, Bullhound Capital, LP&E AG, and existing investors HV Capital, Project A, Peter Thiel, DTCP, Omnes Capital, Airbus Ventures, Porsche SE, and Notion.

Rana Yared, General Partner at Balderton Capital, says, “We’re thrilled to partner with Florian, Sven, and their exceptional team as they redefine the standard for aerial intelligence. Quantum Systems has the technical excellence, strategic vision, and operational maturity to become a world leader in this critical category, and positively further both security and commercial objectives.”

Balderton Capital is a venture firm with over 25 years of activity in Europe. It invests across the technology sector through both early and growth funds. The firm has supported companies in areas including AI, fintech, B2B SaaS, digital health, mobility, gaming, and marketplaces.

An AI-powered aerial systems

Founded in 2015 by Florian Seibel and Sven Kruck, Quantum Systems develops AI-powered aerial robotics and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS).

These systems, along with the company’s Drone Port solution, provide automated aerial data collection and processing.

The company combines in-house software, AI, and automation to support decision-making in defence, security, public safety, and various commercial and industrial sectors. Its systems are designed to collect, process, and deliver aerial data through an automated workflow, including deployment, operation, and analysis.

Based at Special Airport Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, Quantum Systems operates internationally, with locations in the US, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania. The company’s technology is used globally for data-focused operations.

Field-tested and commercially viable

Quantum Systems’ drones and intelligence systems are used by NATO-aligned forces in Germany, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain.

After acquiring Germany’s AirRobot in March, the company became a tier-1 supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence. It also entered the UK market through the acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK.

In the commercial sector, Quantum Systems provides mapping drones for use in mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. Clients include RocketDNA and the Indian government’s Department for Science and Technology.

Quantum Systems launched its Vector platform in 2019. The company has since developed new versions to meet changing defence and business requirements. Its latest version, Vector AI, was introduced earlier this year and has been used in Ukraine. The system provides real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance in environments without GPS or communications.

In April, the company also announced that the Spanish Armed Forces had procured two systems from its Family of Systems—Vector and Twister. This is the first instance of a customer adopting the full range of the company’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

Capital utilisation

Quantum Systems will use the new funds for global expansion, scaling production, and advancing autonomous drone systems, software, and AI.

This funding comes after the company experienced over 100 per cent year-over-year revenue growth and now employs 550 people across sites in Germany, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania.

Florian Seibel, co-CEO and co-founder of Quantum Systems, says, “The need for sovereign, aerial intelligence has never been more pressing. Our systems, a powerful blend of hardware and software, are built for the realities of modern defence and security challenges – they are autonomous, interoperable, and proven under harsh conditions.”

“With support from our new and existing investors, we are ready to become the European leader in robotised and AI-powered aerial intelligence solutions, providing both public and commercial customers with the high-quality, accurate data they need for daily decision making.”

Sven Kruck, co-CEO, Quantum Systems, adds, “The successful completion of our C Series marks a significant milestone in our company’s history. This investment allows us to follow our vision. We will increase our global production capacity to meet the growing demand for our AI-powered drone systems and expand our market presence worldwide.”

What do the investors have to say?

Oliver Dörre, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, Hensoldt, says, “Our investment underscores Hensoldt’s commitment to acting as a bridge-builder—linking established defence players with agile, next-generation startups to accelerate innovation and strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty.”

“The collaboration with Quantum Systems holds tremendous potential for the future of Software-Defined Defence and together, we will shape a new era of adaptive, modular defence systems that respond faster and more intelligently to modern operational requirements.”

Michael Schöllhorn, CEO, Airbus Defence and Space, adds, “As we can see from ongoing conflicts, Europe’s security will depend on connected, interoperable and multi-domain defence solutions – and the ability to adapt the warfighting capabilities with the speed of relevance.”

“Airbus pursues its mission to shape and lead an ecosystem of defence aerospace, which provides such capabilities to our customer nations. Partnerships with nimble and competent companies like Quantum Systems are crucial elements to realise this joint vision, accelerating innovation in autonomous flight and crewed/uncrewed teaming.”
