Nico Rosberg, former Formula 1 World Champion turned sustainability entrepreneur and angel investor, announced the launch of a new €70M Fund of Funds through his investment firm Rosberg Ventures.
A fund of funds pools investor capital and allocates it across multiple other funds, providing diversification in venture capital investments.
Rosberg Ventures launched its first fund just over a year ago and has established its second fund, with a target of €75M, securing a first close at €30M.
This fund operates as a Fund of Funds, allowing indirect investment in over 2,000 transformative startups spanning diverse sectors including AI, health tech, blockchain, robotics, fintech, and consumer technology.
Rosberg says, “This new chapter at Rosberg Ventures continues the innovative, tech-centric work I’ve pursued since retiring from F1. At Rosberg Ventures, we’re now proudly bundling all my VC activities. We have added our own in-house $75M VC Fund of Funds to my existing serial angel investing. Continuing our pursuit of fostering global startup innovation.”
Supporting impactful innovation
Rosberg mentions in a LinkedIn post that despite Germany and Europe possessing significant wealth, families in these regions have limited access to leading global VC funds compared to the US.
The US allocates 2.5 times more capital to VC than Europe (€188B vs €77B), and European participation in top-tier VC funds is estimated at only around 1-2 per cent. This disparity underscores the need for increased European involvement in top global VC opportunities.
Rosberg Ventures aims to address this disparity by boosting the involvement of German and European strategic capital in Tier 1 VC funds to promote global startup innovation.
Rosberg Ventures’ fund primarily invests in global VC funds and pools capital from Ultra-High-Net-Worth German and European families with substantial local corporate interests. This approach enhances the firm’s capacity to benefit from global VC value creation.
“Importantly, we then selectively build bridges between startups and these corporates, creating win-win scenarios: customers and growth for startups and accelerate transformation for local corporates,” adds Rosberg.
