Modern day smartphone users are heavily dependent on apps to get things done. From booking a hotel reservation to ordering a meal at home, apps cover it all. There are multiple apps that can help you go out and meet new people but there are a few apps that do so very well. Enter Swabit, a new mobile app thatโ€™s taking an innovative approach for building communities. The app was developed by a Rotterdam-based startup of the same name.

Create your own networking and collaboration opportunities

Swabit enables the creation of personalised networking and collaboration opportunities for users of the same social group. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS. As soon as one logs into the app, they will be greeted with a map that will display existing communities in the near vicinity. A user also has the option to create their own community too.

The communities on the map can be public or private and there are discussion forums where users can chat and check out other usersโ€™ profiles. As per the startupโ€™s CEO, Tommaso, the app addresses a problem that is apparently not being solved by current communication tools. โ€œSocieties are increasingly more segmented, and technology is lagging behind when it comes to uniting communities. People who frequent, live and work in the same places often donโ€™t know anything about each other, because traditional social media are too broad, generic and non-contextual,โ€ says Tommaso.

Why Swabit may be better for you over Slack and WhatsApp

While Slack and WhatsApp serve their purpose of chat and communication, chats can get quite messy on these platforms. Conversely, Swabit offers a forum-like structure that is said to make it easier for users to follow conversations and retrieve information. โ€œOur app has a clean, neat and practical interface that makes it handier than other toolsโ€, says Riccardo Testa, the head of the appsโ€™ development team.

Swabit also doesnโ€™t require users to share their phone numbers or details of their other social media accounts. This makes for a more privacy-centric experience. While the app is free to use, people handling larger communities can also purchase subscription packages that offer extra features. Additionally, Swabitโ€™s customised versions are also available for larger companies and they offer services like web portals, intranet systems and newsletters.

The French insurtech startup Akur8 has raised โ‚ฌ8 million Series A funding from BlackFin Capital Partners and MTech Capital. This brings the overall funding raised by the company to โ‚ฌ10 million. It has been revealed that the investment will be used to accelerate its expansion into the international markets across Europe and the US.

Unique AI approach

The company has developed a differentiated AI-based solution for pricing and risk modelling. Akur8โ€™s unique AI algorithm brings automation into the insurance pricing process. Eventually, it provides complete transparency and ensures compliance with local insurance regulatory standards.

Samuel Falmagne, Co-founder and CEO of Akur8, said: โ€œWhen we embarked on building Akur8, we were passionate about offering a truly novel solution for the insurance industry. We are proud to have developed a product that gives carriers the ability to meet customersโ€™ expectations for real-time pricing while improving the accuracy of their risk assessment, thus significantly reducing their loss ratio.โ€

Role of AI in insurtech

In the current scenario, insurance companies are facing tough competition. The key differentiating factor is the pricing sophistication brought in by these companies. Until recently, pricing processes have been manual, inefficient, and lengthy. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to improve the process.
