Rotterdam-based Noon, a workplace well-being startup, announced on Monday, May 8, that it has officially launched its platform to support the well-being of employees in a scientifically based manner

Noon was developed in collaboration with Builders Studio, a Rotterdam-based startup studio that brings together innovative business ideas, financing, entrepreneurs, and operational support to develop innovative SaaS solutions to shape the future of work and living.

Global mental health crisis in the workforce

In today’s fast-paced world, mental health challenges have become a significant concern for employers worldwide.

Studies indicate that 35 per cent of the global workforce grapples with mental health issues, often directly linked to chronic stress.

Consequently, addressing stress and preventing psychological problems among employees has become a pressing challenge, particularly for managers in startups and scale-ups within the technology sector.

Research further reveals that millennials and Generation Z, who comprise the largest percentage of employees in these companies, experience the highest stress levels.

Recognising the absence of an effective tool for companies to tackle mental health issues at their core, Hendrik-Jan Griffioen and Saul Johnson developed Noon — a scientific platform that fosters a collaborative and sustainable approach to mental health in the workplace.

“Existing benefits for the support of employee’s well-being offered by employers, such as initiatives for physical activity, can certainly contribute to their state of mind. However, these are band-aid solutions, as they do not provide insight into the root of mental problems, such as stress. Therefore, a fix remains unclear as well,” says Hendrik-Jan Griffioen, CEO of Noon.

“With Noon, attention on well-being becomes a permanent part of the daily routine of employers and their employees, which leads to accurate insights and possibilities to consciously improve”, says Hendrik-Jan Griffioen, CEO of Noon.

Noon: A solution rooted in science

Noon claims that its technology, developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals, executives, and employees, is rooted in scientific research from Berkeley University.

This research demonstrates that combating mental health problems is most effective when their source is identified.

Integrated into the popular communications platform Slack, Noon empowers companies to design a unique well-being strategy by actively monitoring employees’ state of mind.

Through daily check-ins encompassing productivity, workload, control, working atmosphere, and energy levels, Noon offers valuable insights into employees’ well-being and highlights trends that help identify the root causes of any changes.

All data collected is transparently presented to managers and teams via a user-friendly dashboard, enabling them to design tailor-made interventions.

Managers can leverage these insights to provide practical tips and guidance on interpreting feedback, while also employing agile and growth principles to test and refine their strategies.

Individual employees gain access to an overview of their mental state trends and receive personalised recommendations for improvement, such as enhancing boundary-setting skills or improving communication.
