Last update:

Rotterdam-based Somnox, a company known for its sleep-enhancing products, announced that it has reached profitability after years of financial losses.

The company reported record customer growth in January, positive EBITDA for the 2024 fiscal year, and an increase in recurring revenue.

Despite these achievements, the company acknowledges ongoing challenges as it continues to scale. Leadership remains committed to its mission of reducing reliance on sleep medication through natural solutions.

The development was reported via a LinkedIn post by Julian Martijn Jagtenberg, founder and CEO of Somnox.

Jagtenberg mentions, “Despite everything that is NOT in our favour, I’m proud. Proud of our team, the grit, and the passion for making it work and serving our customers day and night. Our relentless belief in the need for our product to make people less dependent on sleep meds and bring calm in a natural and (huggable) manner.”

“We are far from perfect – and we need many aspects to improve still. But boy… There’s much potential ahead of our mission of helping people experience calm and good night’s rest.”

Somnox: From personal struggle to sleep innovation

Somnox was founded after Julian Jagtenberg set out to help a family member struggling with sleep. Dissatisfied with existing solutions, he researched sleep science, consulted experts, and conducted user studies, leading to a key insight: controlled breathing plays a crucial role in relaxation and sleep.

Founded in 2016, founder Jagtenberg and a team at Delft University of Technology developed early prototypes of a sleep robot, refining the design until it effectively mimicked natural breathing rhythms.

A partnership with Dutch bed manufacturer Auping further advanced the product, resulting in the patented Somnox device. Today, Somnox aims to help 100 million people sleep better by 2030, with a team continuing to improve and expand the technology.

Somnox 2 offers a drug-free approach to better sleep

According to a study by the National Library of Medicine, 33 per cent of adults experience chronic insomnia. While existing sleep medications and help may have side effects or limited effectiveness, Somnox claims to offer an alternative approach to improve sleep naturally.

Equipped with patented Somnox Sense technology, the device detects a user’s breathing in real-time and gradually slows it to a sleep-inducing rhythm. Users can also personalise their experience via a mobile app, adjusting breathing patterns and streaming calming audio through Bluetooth.

By offering a natural, non-medicated alternative, Somnox 2 seeks to help individuals fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.
