Netherlands-based Planon, a smart building management software provider, announced that it has expanded its strategic partnership with Schneider Electric, a Paris-based company specialising in energy management and automation.
On December 17, 2020, Schneider Electric acquired a 25 per cent minority stake in Planon Beheer BV through a strategic investment.
On July 30, 2024, Schneider Electric agreed to increase its ownership of Planon to a controlling 80 per cent stake.
Aim of the partnership
Planon is a provider of Smart Sustainable Building Management software. It aims to enhance experiences for building users, owners, and service providers by integrating solutions into a unified platform, eliminating data silos, and delivering actionable insights. The company supports over 2,800 clients through a network of offices and partners worldwide.
In 2023, Planon reported revenues of €161M, with a CAGR of +22 per cent since 2019, after achieving double-digit revenue CAGR in the preceding five years.
Since Schneider’s 2020 investment, Planon’s offerings have complemented Schneider’s Energy Management solutions for smart buildings.
The latest strategic partnership enhances Schneider’s agnostic software strategy, leveraging Planon’s global presence, cloud-based Integrated Workplace Management System, and subscription-based model to capitalise on the growing smart building software market.
According to Planon, the deal values the company at a mid-single-digit revenue multiple, similar to its 2020 valuation.
Completion of the deal is expected in the coming months. After closing, Planon will be consolidated into Schneider Electric’s Energy Management business, where it is currently accounted for under the equity method.
