Over the past decade, the Netherlands has become a leading European startup hub, driven by a competitive talent pool, interconnected economy, and thriving tech sector. 

In Q3 2023, Dutch startups displayed resilience by securing €420M in venture capital, contributing to a total investment of almost €1.4B in 2023, as per The Quarterly Startup Report.

Many startups from the country’s capital city, Amsterdam, have also thrived in the Dutch market. These startups are not only raising funds but also expanding their teams, actively seeking talent for continued growth and innovation. 

So today, we bring you the list of those Amsterdam-based startups that have raised funding in December; some are actively hiring too.

Farmless is on a mission to revolutionise protein production, combatting ecological issues linked to traditional agriculture. Addressing the environmental impact of livestock, they aim to free protein production from animals and conventional farming. 

Using a fermentation platform with renewable liquid feedstock and natural microorganisms, Farmless has developed initial products for meat, dairy, and egg alternatives.

Trunkstar

Trunkstar offers connectivity lifecycle management software, streamlining digital transformation with automation. Its platform minimises errors, cuts operational costs, and empowers teams to concentrate on essential tasks for business growth.

Amsterdam’s new VC firm Mindshift Ventures invested in Trunkstar. The startup will use the funds to scale the business in the coming 18 months.

CubexLab

SolarFoil specialises in developing materials that enhance the solar spectrum for optimal plant and algae growth in greenhouses and photobioreactors.

Since 2020, Soft Revolt has empowered 20,000 women in 17 countries, emphasising comfortable support, especially for fuller cups. With two models available and a third in the works, the startup plans to expand its range to include larger sizes in response to high demand.

Ore Energy

Ore Energy, a spin-out from TU Delft, is dedicated to developing a low-cost, multi-day energy storage system. Launched in 2022, the company aims to create battery technology facilitating the integration of renewable energy for a fully decarbonised electricity grid.

Hivello

Raised funding: $1M in a pre-seed round

Hivello is committed to enhancing the accessibility of decentralised services through its Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN). The company had plans to launch its technology this Christmas, aiming to integrate up to 100 DePINs in the next 12 months.

New Optimist

New Optimist is on a mission for systemic change in the fashion industry, emphasising social, local, and circular principles. Operating within the boundaries of the “Donut Economy”, this Amsterdam-based initiative combines a social atelier and a local clothing brand. 

The atelier produces garments in Amsterdam, fostering a creative fusion of talents and backgrounds while adhering to circular design principles: zero waste, durability, and the use of recycled materials.

New Optimist claims to celebrate the craftsmanship of garment-making, highlighting both the makers and the sustainable production process.

MXDR, which stands for Managed Extended Detection and Response, is a cybersecurity service provided by specialists to protect businesses from cyber threats.

Triple

Triple is solving transaction data with AI to create better financial experiences. Its services include automating processes such as brand enrichment, fraud detection, and carbon footprint tracking. The company’s technology has enriched over 1 billion transactions globally.
