Last update:

Stockholm-based Agteria Biotech, a company focused on cutting global greenhouse gas emissions by 1 per cent, has secured €6M in a seed round of funding.

The investment was co-led by Industrifonden and AgriZeroNZ, with additional backing from existing investors Norrsken Launcher and Mudcake.

Mala Valroy, Investment Manager at Industrifonden, says, “Agteria’s progress in a short time is remarkable, driven by a small, highly ambitious, and energetic team. We’re excited to support their journey as they bring a unique, scalable, science-backed innovation with the potential to significantly reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emission.”

Wayne McNee, Chief Executive at AgriZeroNZ, adds, “We’re actively scanning the world for innovative ventures to invest in to help farmers reduce emissions. We’re proud to back Agteria to accelerate the development of a practical, effective solution suitable for grazing systems in New Zealand and around the world.”

Prior to this round, in March 2024, the company secured €1.4M in a pre-seed funding round led by Norrsken Launcher.

What does Agteria Biotech offer?

Founded in 2023 by Martin Blomberg, Dr. Tommi Remonen and Maia Lidbeck, Agteria Biotech has developed a patent-pending molecule that effectively reduces methane emissions from cattle.

The solution is scalable, cost-efficient, and delivers the highest methane reduction per euro. Proven in multiple in-vivo trials, the solution has attracted interest from the beef, dairy, and animal feed industries.

Agteria is advancing its mission through a science-driven, collaborative approach. By working with experts and conducting rigorous studies in parallel, the company accelerates progress toward regulatory approval.

Its first product, AB-01, is just the beginning of a broader vision to make agriculture net zero by developing safe, scalable, and highly effective greenhouse gas reduction solutions.

Agteria believes in building together and integrating insights from farmers, partners, and customers to maximise real-world impact.

Capital utilisation

According to a statement by Agteria Biotech, methane is a major driver of climate change. It is 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide and contributes to 30 per cent of the rise in global temperature. Reducing methane has become a key priority, with cattle emissions accounting for 5 per cent of global greenhouse gases.

Investor interest in Agteria Biotech’s funding round reflects the urgency of this issue. The €6M investment will help the company progress toward regulatory approval for its methane-reducing cattle products, focusing on safety studies for animals, consumers, and the environment.

Martin Blomberg, CEO of Agteria Biotech, says, “Our goal from the start has been to create a solution that is not only effective but also scalable, affordable, and, above all, safe.”

“Methane levels in the atmosphere have never been higher, in 2024 global temperatures surpassed 1.5 degrees for the first time, and reducing methane is the most impactful short-term action we can take to combat warming.”

“Together with our new investors, combining deep tech experience and strong market knowledge we are ready to accelerate this critical work.”
