Bern-based Capt’n Greenfin, a Swiss clean fishing startup, has raised fresh funding led by Zürich’s MINUS2. The funding amount, however, remains undisclosed.
The investment will support the development and scaling of Capt’n Greenfin’s 100 per cent biodegradable fishing products.
MINUS2 is investing in the startup with a clear vision for sustainable fishing and a forward-looking technology for 100 per cent biodegradable Plastic alternatives, which opens up various other fields of application.
“At MINUS2, we support companies that combine innovation with sustainability. Capt’n Greenfin embodies this philosophy, and we’re thrilled to be part of their journey to revolutionise Angel industry and beyond,” says MINUS2.
Making fishing more sustainable
Founded by Jonas Loïc Urwyler and Nico Hauschke, Capt’n Greenfin has gained recognition for its Greenfin Soft Baits, which replace conventional plastic-based lures. These baits dissolve entirely in water within three weeks, leaving behind valuable proteins that benefit fish and plants.
The company also offers lead-free jig heads made from a specialised alloy and is developing a biodegradable hard-plastic alternative.
The company collaborates with its community to refine its products and invites anglers to test Greenfins in their favourite waters.
What are sustainable Soft Baits?
Sustainable soft baits are biodegradable artificial fishing lures designed to reduce environmental harm by avoiding microplastics and toxic substances. Made from natural proteins, they are coloured with coffee grounds and flavoured with fresh garlic concentrate.
According to the company, these 100 per cent organic baits have been tested under OECD 249 standards, confirming their safety for fish and aquatic ecosystems.
The baits’ durability depends on water temperature, lasting 1-2 hours in waters below 18°C, with faster degradation in warmer conditions.
