Denmark’s The Footprint Firm launches Fund I, closes first round at €50.2M

Copenhagen-based The Footprint Firm, a company that works for climate-positive innovations and sustainable solutions, announced the launch of its first fund, The Footprint Fund I. The fund has closed its first round at DKK 375M (approximately €50.28M). 

It will target investments in six key areas: energy, food and agriculture, sustainable construction, climate technologies, bio-solutions, and circular economy ventures. The fund’s investment ticket size is between €0.5M to €2M.

The Footprint Fund I is an Article 9 ‘dark green’ fund, meaning it prioritises sustainable investments and focuses on early-stage startups and scale-ups in the pre-seed and seed stages.

The Footprint Firm says in a LinkedIn post, “We so look forward to continuing to work with amazing startups on a mission to make the world a more sustainable place. Both the ones we already know, love and admire, – and all the new ones we will get to know over the coming years.”

Investors supporting The Footprint Fund

The investment came from the North-East Family Office, Realdania, Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker and S.Rishøj Holding

This fund builds on the company’s existing investment activity, having already made over 20 investments in the last four and a half years.

The firm told Finans, “Since The Footprint Firm was founded five years ago, the company has worked with a model where both employees and management buy into bonus schemes and profit sharing.”

“Instead, the profit has been used to invest in sustainable startups, and subsequently, when the investments are at some point exited, the return will be passed on to the employees according to an internal allocation key.”
